Boeing extends production shutdown indefinitely amid pandemic

SEATTLE - As the coronavirus continues its rampage across Washington state, the Boeing Co. announced Sunday it is extending its shutdown of production operations in the Puget Sound area and at Moses Lake sites until further notice.

The decision affects about 30,000 of Boeing's 70,000 employees in the state, including large numbers of employees at the aerospace giant's sprawling commercial aircraft assembly plants in Everett and Renton.

Meanwhile, Boeing has already begun a voluntary layoff plan amid the global economic crunch brought on by the coronavirus outbreak.
