The deputy director-general of Bangkok Health, Mr. Charnchai Kumpong, indicated that the officials are capable of containing the bird flu outbreak. He said bird flu has now become a local disease because many people have greater awareness of it.
Mr. Charnchai said the bird flu situation in Bangkok is not worrying because the officials are still in control of the circumstances and all involved agencies are creating a mutual understanding with public members. He said bird flu usually emerges during the cold weather in January, but the disease should not be as intense as the previous years this time because many people have become more conscious of its dangers.
People have been asked to report to the officials once they spot any sign of bird flu such as chickens or birds that have fallen ill or died abnormally in their households. The dead poultry should be tightly sealed and it should be delivered to the Livestock Department for further research.
