Tim orders report on Moruga school

A REPORT on the mystery illness that affected 16 female students of the Moruga Secondary School is expected to be presented today to Minister of Education Dr Tim Gopeesingh.
The school has been the centre of attention over the last few days because of a bizarre incident which began last Wednesday in which the 16 students mysteriously fell ill and had to be rushed to hospital for medical attention. Teachers, parents and students will this morning participate in an interfaith service at the school as a part of the healing process. Ministry of Education officials are expected to attend. Several students from Forms One, Two and Three began vomiting and experienced physical outbursts during which they spoke in ?tongues?.
?It continued on Thursday and the following day parents decided to keep their children at home. The interfaith service will be held this morning on the school?s compound before students are allowed to enter their respective classrooms. Speaking to Newsday yesterday, Gopeesingh said he had mandated a team to investigate the matter and provide him with a report.
?I expect that I should get that some time today. I am awaiting that report on the entire issue before I could comment on the matter,? he said, expressing his concerns about what has been allegedly taking place at the school.
?Since the incident, the student support services have been at the school and working with the children there,? Gopeesingh said.
Minister in the Ministry of Education Clifton De Coteau, who is also Member of Parliament for the area, told Newsday that he will be paying a brief visit to the school today. De Coteau said, ?I was out of the country when the incident occurred. I only returned on Friday. I will visit the school as I have to be in Port-of-Spain for a meeting later in the morning.?
