The Spokesman of the Ministry of Health and Population Dr. Abdul Rahman Shahine said on 8/10/2008 that it was agreed to act immediately to implement the project of producing the vaccine of bird flu in Egypt in order not to import it.


Shahine added that the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA) is named to manufacture the vaccine under world technology and scientific steps would be taken in this respect in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture.

The spokesman said the Higher Committee for Combating Bird Flu has decided in its latest meeting under Minister of Agriculture Amin Abaza to transfer the chairmanship of the committee from the Ministry of Agriculture to the Ministry of Local Development under General Abdul Salam el-Mahgoub.

He added that the committee has reviewed the stance of the disease concerning injuries among birds where 13 infection spots were reported on May 27.

Shahine noted that the committee has reviewed the activities of the early detection of bird flu injury in 10 governorates and the specimens were reported negative.

He also confirmed the importance of the regular vaccination of birds where the fourth campaign will start next month.

As to the situation in Egypt on bird flu injuries among humans, the spokesman said no human injury has been reported since April, thus the number remains 50 human cases: 28 recovered and 22 died.

أضاف انه تم اختيار مصر لانعقاد المؤتمر العالمي لمكافحة أنفلونزا الطيور في 24 أكتوبر الجاري وذلك بعد أن نجحت وزارة الصحة والزراعة والبيئة في مكافحة الفيروس وعلاجه بين البشر والطيور..

He said Egypt has been selected for the World Conference against bird flu on 24 October in the wake of the successful and the Ministry of Health, agriculture and the environment in the fight against HIV and treatment of humans and birds .

. موضحاً أن المؤتمر تشارك فيه 85 دولة من مختلف دول العالم و300 عضو منهم 38 وزيرا للصحة و18 وزيرا للزراعة وممثلون للجهات والهيئات والمنظمات العالمية والحكومية المختلفة وستتم مناقشة الأساليب الجديدة لمكافحة المرض وإنتاج اللقاحات الخاصة بالبشر والطيور.

He added that the participation of 85 countries from around the world and 300 members, including 38 health ministers and 18 ministers of agriculture and representatives of donors and international bodies and organizations and various government and will discuss new methods to combat the disease and the production of vaccines for humans and birds
