Deadly Bird Flu Found on Poultry Farms in Nigeria

Text of report by state-owned Nigerian NTA TV from Abuja on 30 August

Avian Influenza, otherwise known as Bird flu has been discovered in some parts of Ogun and Edo states. The disease was discovered in some poultry farms in both states.

The disease was found in Owode and other parts of Ado-Odo-Ota local government area of Ogun State. Owners of farms where the disease was found have been directed to stop selling birds and eggs. The order became necessary to stem the spread of the disease.

The Ogun and Edo governments also enjoined people living in the affected areas to ensure that all eggs and chicken are properly boiled before eating.
