</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top align=left>Bird flu was discovered to have struck a flock of ducks in northern Thai Nguyen Province, the Department of Animal Health said Thursday.</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top align=left>The flock of 110 was culled Wednesday, the department said, adding the fowl had not been vaccinated against the disease.
Two provinces have seen outbreaks of bird flu recur this winter. In addition to Thai Nguyen, the southern Tra Vinh Province was hit in late December.
The Health Ministry recently issued a warning about the high risk of bird flu returning in the cold weather and during the Lunar New Year Tet Holiday when the transportation and slaughter of poultry is high.
Bird flu has killed 47 of the 101 people infected in Vietnam since 2003, eight of whom died last year according to the World Health Organization.
