Press release of the APRM

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries announces:

The Veterinary Services of Nigeria, through the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), notified the recurrence of outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the north in Kano and south in Lagos.

Given the many and multiple cross-border transactions between our country and its neighbor Nigeria, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries reminds us that the provisions of the ministerial decree No. 3889 / APR / MICPE / MFE / MSP / DC / SGM / DE / SA of 13 December 2005 on the temporary ban on importation, distribution and transit of poultry, parts and offal, frozen poultry, day-old chicks, eggs and animal feed in from countries infected with bird flu are still in force and that all imports of poultry, poultry products and animal feed is subject to prior approval of the Department of Animal Production.

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries reminds the import, distribution and poultry transit areas and offal, frozen poultry, day-old chicks, eggs, animal feed and all other preparations based on poultry and poultry eggs from Nigeria is strictly prohibited until further notice.

He invited all the people of Benin for calm and observe the rules of hygiene and behavior prescribed in individual and collective level including thorough cooking of poultry products before consumption to avoid the disease.

Furthermore, he invites all border control bodies (customs, police, gendarmerie, etc.) to lend a hand to officers of Veterinary Services in the control of poultry cross-border transactions, poultry products and animal feed.

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries relies on the commitment of each and all to prevent our country to relive the sad experience of the pandemic of bird flu.
