PATNA: Health minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey on Friday said that six persons who died on Tuesday at Bageshwari village under Haveli Kharagpur police station in Munger district had actually succumbed after consuming poisonous food.

Choubey, who visited the village with a team of doctors, said that after investigation it became clear that the death occurred due to exchange of food between the two neighbouring families. The food was poisonous and they died after consuming it, Choubey said, ruling out any possibility of mysterious disease reported earlier.

The minister said that the affected families have been provided money under Kabir Anteyasthi Yojana. They would also be compensated under the National Family Benefit Scheme by the department of social welfare, Choubey said, adding the district administration would provide one month's ration to the affected families. The locals demanded help under Chief Minister Relief Fund to which the minister talked to the state's chief secretary.

Choubey also announced upgradation of the health sub-centre at Agrahan Panchayat to additional primary health centre ( APHC) and directed the Munger civil surgeon to submit a report in this regard soon. However, the minister who was scheduled to visit Bageshwari village, postponed his visit.
