Yebilaptsa District Hospital 13 December, 2010 - Sixteen children, including an eight-week old baby, from Dunmang and Kamjong villages in Zhemgang have been admitted to the Yebilaptsa district hospital following the death of an 11-year old student from suspected acute glomerulonephritis (AGN), a kidney inflammation, on December 6.
Health officials in Yebilaptsa hospital said that, of the 16 children, who came to the hospital complaining of headache and swelling of face and stomach, six were suspected to suffer from AGN, while the rest had come out of fear.
But what caused the outbreak and whether it is AGN is still unknown. Health officials said although all patients had a history of consuming carcasses of cattle that died of black quarter disease, it has not been established that consuming the carcasses could cause AGN....
