I'd bet the first cases of avian H5N1 along the west coast of the United States are misdiagnosed. West Nile Virus will be rampant (due to excessive rainfall) along the California, Oregon, and Washington coastlines.

Actually the best IMO explanation is 'we can't frighten the children', meaning us of course, due to the economic implications --airlines hanging on by thread, Gas prices are high will go higher, can't affect the almighty tourism dollar, and the preznit's bro is governor of Disney World, Universal Studios, etc.

There's a new one out there (which might just be some sort of misunderstanding) -- it's just "H5" which is not at all as deadly as "H5N1."

Prince Edward Island, inconclusive...a flip flop into a snafu.

Authorities had announced Jun 16 that preliminary tests had indicated an H5 virus in a gosling, one of four birds that had died in a backyard flock. The positive test led authorities to destroy the rest of the flock and raised concern about the threat of H5N1 spreading to North America. But officials reported on Jun 20 that further tests at Canada's avian flu reference laboratory in Winnipeg, Man., were negative.

In the latest announcement, the CFIA said attempts to culture the virus from samples from the gosling had failed

It's very unlikely to be bird flu because bird flu has never been detected in this country.

Smuggled poultry from China in the US?

Authorities siezed the smuggled meat and allegedly destroyed it without running any tests. Later articles reported that some of the siezed and 'destroyed' meat was stolen.

So ... it was identified, secured, destroyed and then stolen but never tested.

Make sense to anyone else?
