Bermuda now has six cases of Covid-19 and more positive test results are expected in the days ahead, the Premier said last night.

David Burt added four new cases had been detected on top of two earlier ones.

Mr Burt said that none of the six people who tested positive for the coronavirus had needed hospitalisation...

HAMILTON, Bermuda (CMC) — Bermuda's tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases more than doubled overnight to 15, Premier David Burt announced on Thursday.

Burt said 40 more results had been received, of which eight were positive, bringing the total positive cases in Bermuda to 15.

Four cases arrived on British Airways flights from London's Gatwick Airport – two on March 15 and one each on March 17 and March 20...

Bermuda's coronavirus cases rise to 27

Bermuda has recorded five more confirmed cases of the coronavirus, increasing the island's total to 27.

Tests showed three of the new cases were imported while two had close contact with a previously confirmed case.

All of the imported cases arrived on British Airways flights from London's Gatwick Airport on March 13, 15 and 17...

Bermuda recorded no new confirmed cases of Covid-19 today.

David Burt, the Premier, told a press conference eight negative test results were received, and the island’s number of confirmed cases remained 32.

Of the three cases under investigation, two have been confirmed as “close contacts”, and one is still being looked into.

There have been 236 tests done, with 171 negative results and 33 results still pending...

Bermuda has recorded three more cases of Covid-19, bringing the total to 35, the Premier announced this evening.

David Burt said four people were now in hospital with the disease.

Mr Burt added one of the new cases arrived on British Airways on March 18 and a second came in the same day on Delta flight 561 from Boston.

The third case is under investigation...

HAMILTON - Health officials on Saturday announced two more confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing Bermuda’s total to 37, as the island began a 14-day lockdown designed to stem the coronavirus that has already claimed the lives of more than 64 000 people around the world.

Both new patients are in hospital, along with four earlier ones. All six are said to be in a stable condition.

The news came after 25 test results came back, 23 of which were clear. More test kits are on their way from London.

A government spokeswoman said: “Out of the 37 total cases, 14 people have recovered. There are 17 active cases under active public health monitoring.”

She added the two new cases were under investigation to establish how they caught the disease. The average age of the confirmed positive cases is 47 and the age range is 18 to 83.

Police warned that anyone breaching shelter-at-home rules would be dealt with after people under quarantine invited friends on social media to visit them at the centre where 123 people are being held in strict isolation for 14 days.

People brought back to the island from overseas have to undergo an isolation period to limit the risk of spread of coronavirus infection.

The police said it was aware of “social-media messages circulating, regarding individuals who are being quarantined” that were “encouraging friends to come and visit”.

The police notice added: “This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.”

Many of the island’s 39 confirmed cases of Covid-19 were people who had travelled back to the island from the United States or Britain.

Some of the online messages from quarantined people also gave away the location where returnees are held, which the Government had kept secret for security reasons.

Wayne Caines, the Minister of National Security, said yesterday it was “disappointing” to see the messages.

But he added: “Let’s not talk about exceptions to the rule.

“The majority of people in government quarantine facilities have governed themselves with discipline and aplomb and have followed the rules.”

The news came after Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley on Monday condemned “ridiculous” excuses given to officers at checkpoints set up to make sure people had a good reason for being away from home during the lockdown.

[Updated] The Ministry received two more positive test results, Bermuda now has a total of 50 confirmed positive cases, 28 have now recovered, and there have not been any further Covid-19 related deaths.

Minister of Health Kim Wilson said, “Between Good Friday and today, Saturday 11th April, the Ministry received 47 new test results; 45 were negative, and two were positive. Of the two new positives, one was an imported case and one was a contact of a previously confirmed case. We count our blessings that there have been no further COVID-19 related deaths.

“Bermuda’s total confirmed positive cases stands at 50; 28 have now recovered, eight persons are hospitalized, and there are 10 persons that are under active public health monitoring, but who do not require hospitalization. However, the good news is that three persons who were previously hospitalized, have now been discharged from hospital, giving us all hope that recovery can be possible...

More than 900 tests a day for Covid-19 could be carried out now that two laboratories are up and running, it was revealed last night.

A government spokeswoman said that the labs had the immediate ability to do 200 tests every day — and the number would increase more than fourfold when they were fully staffed.

Mr Burt added that the island now had 10,000 swabs and that 2,000 more test kits would arrive today and 10,000 test kits bought from the Cayman Islands would come in on the British Airways air bridge flight from London on Friday.

Bermuda records more COVID-19 cases; total now 98

HAMILTON, Bermuda (CMC) — The Ministry of Health, late Tuesday said that the island has recorded 12 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total close to the century mark.

A ministry spokeswoman said 222 test results had come back during the day and 210 were negative, the new confirmed cases taking the island's total to 98 , with 31 of them at care homes for the elderly.

A total of 10 people are in hospital while 44 persons are being monitored at home – the age of the patients in hospital is between 57 and 82.

To date, five people have died while a total of 39 people have recovered from the virus...
