Reports came this morning that Bell city council candidate Miguel Alejandro Sanchez, 34, died on Friday after suffering from an unknown illness.
Sanchez?s brother Jorge told EGP Miguel passed away from what he believes to be complications of the H1N1 virus at 3:25 p.m. on Friday, just days before the Mar. 8 city council election in Bell.
Sanchez, a part-time teacher?s assistant, was part of a three person slate with Mario Rivas and Nestor Valencia, who are running for Bell city council. Sanchez was competing for the seat vacated by Luis Artiga, who resigned after he and other current council members were hit with corruption charges.
Sanchez had been sick for a week when his conditioned worsened on Friday morning, according to running mate Rivas. Sanchez was rushed to the hospital after appearing ?incoherent? that morning, Rivas said.
Rivas said in an email statement that he had spoken to Sanchez on Wednesday. ?His last words to me were, ?I?m sorry for not being there, but this is really kicking my butt,?? he wrote.
