The tiger mosquito, carrier of dengue and chikungunya, was spotted in Belgium

According to the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, this is not the first time that this type of mosquito was discovered in Belgium. The mosquito was seen in a facility in late June.

The tiger mosquito was seen in one place and very few have been identified. The Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp spoke to our colleagues of "The Soir" "They are for the moment in a covered area and no one has been infected. We regularly for monitoring and we have found nothing. These mosquitoes are therefore not dispersed. "The risk of infection is minimal.

However, if infection occurs, Belgium has no action plan "Unlike the Netherlands, we are not prepared. The Institute is not trained for this potential situation. We are only scientists. Currently, it is the Regions that manage the situation. But it would take a national plan. " To eradicate the mosquito, there is a product but it is illegal in Belgium "The government has made an application for leave to Europe. We are still awaiting a response. "
