On November 13, 2020, the first infections of the H5N8 bird flu virus in 3 wild birds were detected in a bird rescue center (VOC) in Ostend. Unfortunately, this news confirms that the avian flu virus, which the FASFC warned at the end of October, is now also present in wild birds in Belgium. Additional measures are imposed.

Three wild birds staying in a bird sanctuary in Ostend tested positive for the virus H5N8. The infections were confirmed by Sciensano on Friday, November 13.
