In Belgium, yesterday again six suspected flu cases were reported, all adults or young adults.

Four men came back last week from Mexico, two from the U.S.. Most only
slightly sick. One person has a serious flu. At least four of the six cases are not together related.

The Scientific Institute of Public Health is currently examining whether the
Mexican flu is. The results are published this morning.

Previously, all seven suspected cases of Mexican Belgian flu reported. But these all tested negative.

First swine flu case in Belgium

By: AFP

Published: 14/05/2009 at 12:15 AM

Belgium on Wednesday became the latest country hit by swine flu, with the health ministry announcing its first confirmed case.
In a short statement, it gave no details of the person affected or whether he or she had recently visited Mexico, where the bulk of swine flu cases and fatalities have occurred.
Since late April their have been several suspected cases of the A(H1N1) influenza in Belgium, but all proved to be false alarms after medical testing.
The Belgian authorities have said they are well-prepared to handle an outbreak. "We know what to do,'' Health Minister Laurette Onkelinx said last week, urging caution but not panic.
On April 30 the government activated what it called its national coordination phase in responding to the threat, setting up a crisis cell to devise and enact all necessary measures in the event of an outbreak.
The flu has already killed more than 60 people in the Americas, mainly Mexico where the virus originated.
The discovery of the virus in Belgium came as little surprise, as cases had already been detected in neighbouring France, Germany and the Netherlands.
According to the latest World Health Organisation data, there have been over 5,700 confirmed swine flu cases worldwide in 33 countries, not including Belgium.
No vaccination exists yet, although the disease -- also discovered in Cuba, Finland and Thailand in recent days -- is treatable.
