B.C. health officials announced 1,262 new cases of COVID-19 and two more deaths on Friday.

In a written statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Adrian Dix, B.C.'s health minister, said there are currently 9,574 active cases of people infected with the disease caused by the novel coronavirus in B.C.

A total of 332 people are in hospital, with 102 in intensive care. Hospitalizations, which typically lag behind spikes and dips in new cases, are up from last Thursday, when 296 were in hospital, 79 of whom were in intensive care.

Over the last seven weeks in B.C., hospitalizations have risen by 53 per cent, while active ICU cases are up 63 per cent. In the last 12 days, 195 of the 366 new hospitalizations across B.C. have been in the Fraser Health authority...

Another 3,289 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in B.C. over the last three days and 18 more people have died, while the number of patients in critical care with the disease has risen to a record high, health officials announced Monday.

There are now 9,937 active cases of the novel coronavirus across B.C., Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said during a live briefing. Of those, 368 patients are in hospital, including 121 people in critical care.

"This is, I don't need to say, our third wave," Henry said.

About 15,900 people are currently under active monitoring by public health because of exposure to known cases of the virus.

There have been two new outbreaks in long-term care and assisted living. To date, 1,513 people have died of the disease out of 112,829 confirmed cases.

Henry said about 50 per cent of the province's cases now involve variants of concern, particularly the B117 variant first identified in the U.K....

B.C. health officials announced 873 new cases of COVID-19 and two more deaths on Tuesday, as Premier John Horgan suggested more restrictions could be coming to stem the third wave of the pandemic.

In a written statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said there are 9,756 active cases of people infected with the disease caused by the novel coronavirus in B.C.

A total of 377 people are in hospital, with 117 in intensive care. Hospitalizations, which typically lag behind spikes and dips in new cases, are up 15 per cent from a week ago, when 328 people were in hospital.

The news came not long after Horgan told reporters that the possibility of travel restrictions will be discussed Wednesday by the provincial cabinet and those talks will also likely examine the status of bookings for hotels, bed and breakfasts and camping sites...

After a brief dip in active cases Tuesday, COVID-19 cases in British Columbia have once again risen, with 1,168 new cases announced Wednesday, 105 of which came from the Interior.

The new cases bring the total positive tests since the beginning of the pandemic to 114,870, and there are now 9,821 active cases in the province. Active cases rose by 65 since Tuesday.

There are now 397 people hospitalized with the disease in the province ? up by by 20 since Tuesday. Of the people being treated in hospital, 120 are being treated in ICU.

There are 944 active cases of the virus in the Interior. Of these, 22 people are hospitalized, nine of whom are in ICU. To date, 120 Interior residents have died from COVID-19.

Another 16,304 people across the province are self-isolating after coming into contact with a COVID-positive person.

Six more British Columbians have died from COVID-19, bringing the total deaths in the province to 1,521...

B.C. could see up to 2,000 new COVID-19 cases a day by next month if the number of contacts per person is not reduced, according to new epidemiological modelling presented by the province on Thursday.

The data is being presented as B.C. records 1,205 new COVID-19 cases and three more deaths. This week, B.C. hit record high hospitalizations, with 409 people currently in hospital and 125 people in intensive care.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said in a news conference that cases in the province began to climb in March during the week of spring break, as the presence of highly infectious variants of concern was met with an uptick in travel and an increase in social interactions.

She said that while deaths in B.C. have levelled off and decreased, case counts are up among people aged 19 to 39 and 40 to 59, with clusters connected to workplaces and social interactions.

"We're seeing that with the variants in particular. Transmission can be widespread in households," said Henry.

"Hospitalization is now being driven by people between the ages of 40 and 79 and that's why it's so important that we continue to focus our age-based vaccination program."...

B.C. health officials announced 1,005 new cases of COVID-19 and six more deaths on Friday as hospitalization numbers continued to break records.

In a written statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said there are currently 425 people in hospital, including 127 in intensive care, both totals surpassing the records set earlier this week.

There are a total of 10,081 active cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus in B.C. ? yet another record high.

Hospitalizations, which typically lag behind spikes and dips in new cases, are up 28 per cent from last Friday, when 332 people were in hospital. Intensive care numbers have risen by nearly 25 per cent in the same time period.

In their statement, Henry and Dix called on British Columbians to enjoy the outdoors this weekend, but to do it safely in small, consistent groups.

VANCOUVER -- British Columbia suffered another eight deaths related to COVID-19 over the weekend, and one of the victims was just two years old.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced the tragic news during her pandemic briefing on Monday, noting that the toddler is now the youngest person to have succumbed to the disease in B.C.

"Although this child had pre-existing health conditions that complicated their illness, it was the virus that caused their death," Henry said.

The child was from the Fraser Health region, which spans from Burnaby to Boston Bar, but had been getting specialized care at BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver.

The toddler's death serves as a reminder of the "vicious nature of this virus," Henry added.

"Our thoughts and prayers and condolences go to the family of this child, and to all of the families and care providers who I know have been so affected by caring for people and who have lost loved ones in this pandemic," she said.

The province has now recorded 1,538 deaths related to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

B.C. also once again broke hospitalization records over the weekend, when the number of patients battling the disease in hospital reached a new high of 441. That includes 138 patients in intensive care, another record for the province...

B.C. reports 849 new COVID-19 cases as hospitalization numbers continue to break records

British Columbia reported 849 new cases of COVID-19 and one death on Tuesday as the number of people in hospital with the disease continues to break records.

The province also recorded one new death, bringing the B.C.?s COVID-19 death toll to 1,539.

Of the new cases, 247 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 474 were in the Fraser Health region, 29 were in Island Health, 67 were in Interior Health, and 31 were in Northern Health. One new case involved a person who resides outside of Canada.

A total of 8,453 tests were conducted. The seven-day rolling average of B.C.?s positivity rates is 9.3 per cent.

Another 15 people are in hospital with COVID-19, bringing total hospitalizations to 456, a record high. Of those, 148 patients are in intensive care ? up 10 from Monday ? also a record...

B.C. health officials announced 862 new cases of COVID-19 and seven more deaths on Wednesday.

In a written statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said there are 8,906 active cases of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus in B.C.

A total of 483 people are in hospital, with 164 in intensive care.

Hospitalizations, which typically lag behind spikes and dips in new cases, are up from last Wednesday, when 397 people were in hospital, 120 of whom were in intensive care.

The provincial death toll from the disease is 1,546.

Public health is actively monitoring 13,135 people across the province who are in self-isolation due to COVID-19 exposure.

On Tuesday, Northern Health declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Dawson Creek and District Hospital in the medical inpatient unit, after two patients tested positive for the virus

So far, 1,456,946 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, with 88,335 of those being second doses.

B.C. health officials said Thursday the province's health-care system is under "immense" pressure due to COVID-19, with hospitalizations reaching new highs, necessitating the postponement of some non-urgent surgeries.

There are currently a record 502 people in hospital, 161 of whom are in intensive care.

British Columbia reported another four COVID-19 deaths and 1,001 new cases on Friday.

The numbers, released in a written statement, showed 1,554 people have now died from complications of the virus in B.C.

The 1,001 new cases bring the total number of cases to 123,758.

Of the new cases, 215 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 626 new cases were in the Fraser Health region, 26 were in the Island Health region, 93 were in the Interior Health region, 39 were in the Northern Health region and two new cases were detected in people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 486 people in the hospital, which is down 16 from Thursday, but 160 people remain in intensive care.

There remain 8,842 active cases of the virus in the province with 12,608 in self-isolation...

British Columbia health officials on Monday reported 2,491 new cases of COVID-19 over the past three days along with 17 deaths.

There were 881 cases from Friday to Saturday while 847 cases were reported from Saturday to Sunday, and 763 from Sunday to Monday.

Of the new cases, 466 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 1,632 were in the Fraser Health region, 82 were in Island Health, 206 were in Interior Health, and 104 were in Northern Health.

In a written statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said there are 8,009 active cases of the novel coronavirus in B.C.

A total of 515 people are in hospital, with 171 in intensive care.

The provincial death toll from the disease is 1,576 out of 127,889 confirmed cases to date.

B.C. health officials announced 874 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday and one more death due to the disease.

There are currently 503 people who are in hospital with the disease, 178 of whom are in intensive care.

So far, B.C. has recorded 128,763 cases of COVID-19, including 1,577 people who have died.

As of Thursday, 1,749,375 doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been administered.

Henry said some data was not immediately available for Thursday's news conference, including the number of active cases.
Hospitalizations still high

Today's numbers come in the wake of a Wednesday statement from health officials that showed COVID-19 related hospitalizations at an all-time high in B.C.

According to the statement, the number of people in hospital has gone up 6.6 per cent in the last week, while the number of patients in intensive care has risen by 4.3 per cent.

B.C. health officials announced 740 new cases of COVID-19 and four more deaths on Friday.

In a written statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said there are 7,886 active cases of the novel coronavirus in B.C.

The latest numbers bring the seven-day rolling average of new cases to its lowest level since March 29, the day provincial health officials announced the latest round of restrictions meant to bring the third wave of the pandemic under control. Those restrictions include a ban on indoor dining in restaurants and pubs and an end to all indoor group fitness activities.

A total of 511 people are in hospital, 174 of whom are in intensive care.

Overall hospitalizations, which typically lag behind spikes and dips in new cases, are up by five per cent from last Friday, when 486 people were in hospital with the disease. The number of patients in intensive care is up by about nine per cent from 160 a week ago...

B.C. reports over 2,150 new COVID cases, 15 deaths

British Columbia health officials have reported 2,174 new cases and 15 deaths from COVID-19 since their last update on April 30.

From Friday to Saturday there were 835, from Saturday to Sunday there were 671 new cases, and from Sunday to Monday, there were 668 new cases identified.

Officials also announced that one of the deaths over the weekend was someone on Vancouver Island.

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. climbs to 131,656 while the province?s death toll now stands at 1,596.

Of the new cases, 438 were recorded in Vancouver Coastal Health, 1,509 were in Fraser Health, 61 in Island Health, 106 in Interior Health, and 60 in Northern Health.

There are currently active 7,327 cases in the province, 474 people in hospital ? 176 of whom are in intensive care ? and 11,781 people under active public health monitoring due to possible exposure to an identified case.

A total of 122,518 people in B.C. have recovered from COVID-19 while more than 1.87 million doses of vaccine have been administered province-wide.

During Monday?s live update, Dr. Bonnie Henry, the provincial health officer, said everyone 18 or older in B.C. can now register to book their COVID-19 vaccine appointment. She also announced that more than one million doses of vaccine are slated to arrive in the province this month, meaning more needles in people?s arms...
