VANCOUVER -- A food processing plant in the Fraser Health region has been ordered to close after nearly two dozen staff members recently tested positive for COVID-19.
The health authority issued a notice Sunday about Grand River Foods, a processing plant on Wheel Avenue in Abbotsford.
"To date, 22 employees of the facility have tested positive for COVID-19 as part of this outbreak," a notice issued by Fraser Health says.

A total of 1,336 people in B.C. have lost their lives due to COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
There are currently 4,677 active cases of coronavirus in the province.
There are now 12 active outbreaks in long-term care facilities and five in acute care units of hospitals.
Henry said that no deaths were recorded in long-term care homes — a reflection of the success of vaccinations in those settings.

The coronavirus has claimed 10 more lives in the last 24 hours, the highest one-day total in two weeks, bringing British Columbia's total deaths to 1,348 since the pandemic began.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry also announced 395 new cases of COVID-19 during a live news conference Thursday, reversing the rising trend seen over the last week.
The vast majority of deaths in B.C. — 88 per cent — have been in people 70 years of age and older, and aside from Thursday's totals, deaths have been heading steadily downward — a trend Henry says is likely to continue with 92 per cent of residents and staff in long-term care homes having received at least one shot of the vaccine.
She noted, however, that recently three people in their 30s have died from the virus, some of them with underlying health conditions. She said the deaths in younger people are not related to variants of the virus and that no one in B.C. has died from a variant strain...

VANCOUVER -- British Columbia recorded another 1,478 cases of COVID-19 and eight related deaths over the weekend, health officials said Monday.
The province has now seen a total of 80,672 coronavirus infections and 1,363 fatalities since the start of the pandemic.
In a joint written statement, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix offered condolences to "everyone who has lost loved ones to COVID-19."
B.C. identified 532 of its latest cases from Friday to Saturday, followed by 508 from Saturday to Sunday and 438 from Sunday to Monday.
The province has now recorded an average of 500 cases per day over the last week, up from a recent low of 407 per day as of Feb. 17.
Health officials also confirmed 42 new cases involving "variants of concern." The province has now recorded 158 such cases, including 137 of the B.1.1.7 variant first identified in the U.K. and 21 cases of the B.1.351 variant associated with South Africa.
Only 10 of the identified variant cases are currently active.
Another 1,588 people also recovered from the disease over the weekend, leaving B.C. with 4,464 active cases – a drop of about 200 from Friday. That includes 236 patients in hospital, 65 of whom are in intensive care...

In a written statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix put the number of hospitalized patients at 246 people, 64 of whom are in intensive care.
The number of people in hospital with the disease has been slowly inching up for the last two weeks after a steady decline that began January, now hitting levels about 13 per cent higher than the low point seen on Feb. 19.
Meanwhile, the seven-day rolling average of new cases continues to climb and is now about 25 per cent higher than it was two weeks ago.
In light of those trends, Henry and Dix signalled that current restrictions on everyday life will not be lifted in the near future — or at least not until a much larger portion of the population has been vaccinated...

B.C. reports 531 new cases of COVID-19 and one new death

British Columbia reported 531 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, along with one additional death.
It left the seven-day moving average of new cases at 534, virtually unchanged overnight but still about 100 higher than this time last month.
In a written statement, health officials said there were 4,861 active cases in B.C., while another 9,051 people were isolating due to exposure.
Of the news cases, 147 new were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 291 were in the Fraser Health region, 19 were in the Island Health region, 42 were in the Interior Health region and 32 were in the Northern Health region.
The province reported an additional 51 cases of COVID-19 variants of concern, for a total of 627 ? 109 of which remain actived.
The total includes 580 cases of the B.1.1.7 variant first detected in the U.K., 33 cases of the B.1.351 variant first detected in South Africa and 14 cases of the P.1 variant first detected in Brazil...

British Columbians can gather outside in groups of up to 10 people, effective immediately, following four months of restrictions on social gatherings.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry amended her public health order Thursday, which had banned outdoor gatherings since November and allowed residents to only meet outside for walks.
The new guidelines mean families can have play dates and friends can meet outside for a coffee, she said.
Despite the province's case numbers hovering around 500 per day in recent weeks, Henry said the riskiest settings are indoors and the chance of spread decreases outside...
...Henry updated her public health order on the same day the province recorded 569 new cases of COVID-19 and three more deaths.
A total of 244 people are in hospital, with 68 people in intensive care. The province has 4,912 active cases, with another 8,900 people under public health monitoring.
New modelling presented by Henry shows the number of contacts people are having are at about 50 to 60 per cent of normal.
The modelling projects a 50 per cent contact rate could lead to a peak in mid-March followed by a gradual decline into the spring months, but a 60 per cent contact rate could result in cases surging back up.
"This is not a prediction," Dr. Henry cautioned. "But it helps us understand the things that we need to do."
The province's reproductive number ? the number of people a person will infect ? is hovering around one (a number close to or above one risks an increase in cases).
Complicating the scenarios are cases of variants circulating in the community. The province has recorded more than 500 cases of the B117 variant, first identified in the U.K. Most of those cases have been found in Fraser Health...

In a written statement, officials reported 648 new cases ? the highest daily number in more than two months, and the second-highest daily tally of 2021.
Of the new cases 149 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 372 were in the Fraser Health region, 32 were in the Island Health region, 39 were in the Interior Health region and 56 were in the Northern Health region.

B.C. health officials announced Monday that 10 more people have died of COVID-19, as the province recorded 1,506 new cases over the last three days.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says 269 people are being treated in hospital, including 76 in critical care.
There are currently 4,987 active cases of COVID-19 across the province.
Since the pandemic began, 1407 British Columbians have died as a result of contracting the virus.
Henry says 163 cases have now been identified as being linked to variants of concern for a total of 880 cases, including 195 that are still active.
