The world faces natural and made disasters every year. Some, like flooding and earthquakes are often localized. Others, like tsunamis and epidemics, can affect larger areas. And finally a pandemic is world wide event, thankfully they don't occur every year. Of course there are social and economic calamities as well. Everyone should be prepared for such events.

How you prepare depends on your personal and local circumstances and what disasters you are preparing for.

Fresh, potable (drinkable) water availability is always a major issue in flood hit areas. The link below provides information on a DIY water filtration system. In the absence of a UV light, boiling the water well before cooling and drinking will remove biological contaminants.
