IEDCR says deceased Pabna farmer not infected with Nipah

A farmer of Ishwardi in Pabna who died at National Institute of Neuro Sciences and Hospital in the capital Wednesday night was not infected with Nipah virus, confirmed Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research on Thursday.

Pabna civil surgeon Shahidullah Dewan, however, earlier said that the 42-year-old Khokon Malitha died of Nipah.

‘I did not test him. Based on his history of drinking date juice I suspected it as Nipah,’ he told New Age in the evening.

IEDCR director Professor Tahmina Shirin said that being informed a team of the institute collected the sample of the victim and did not find any Nipah virus presence.

According to local people and the family, of the victim living in Pratirajpur village at Ishwardi, Khokon suddenly fell ill after consuming raw date juice from a date garden near his house a week ago...
