One dies of diarrhea in Rangamati
RANGAMATI, Bangladesh, June 16 (BSS) - Diarrhea has claimed one and attacked more than 100 persons at a remote village-Pangkhupara under Kaptai upazila of the district in three days, said public representatives and health officials.
The water-borne disease killed Nok Kor Pangkhua, 35, and affected 25 families of the village till Monday last, said headman, Thoai Aung Marma, adding that inmates of the village are ultra-poor and cannot afford anything for sanitation.
Of the affected persons, Kalpana Pangkhua, 25, Lily Pangkhua, 7, and Jesmin Pangkhua, 7, were admitted to Kaptai Upazila Health Complex while Ramdin Khar Pangkhua with one more to Chandraghona Christian Mission Hospital for treatment, said sources at the hospitals.
Diarrhoea has taken a bad shape as there is no healthcare institutions in this remote area, observed the headman.
Being informed, the local administration has sent two medical teams- one from Kaptai Upazila Health Complex and other from the Chandraghona Christian Mission Hospital to the affected places and brought the situation under control, added the headman.
Admitting the outbreak of water-bone disease at the remotest hilly hamlet, the civil surgeon of the district, Dr. Mohammad Abdullah, said the situation is under control as two medical teams are working there.
