Ctg Vet Univ professor dies of suspected Japanese encephalitis

A teacher of Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University died on Thursday after remaining in a coma for three days, with physicians suspecting she had contracted Japanese encephalitis during a recent visit to Bandarban.

Jakia Sultana Jothi, 36, a professor of the Food Processing and Engineering department at the university’s Faculty of Food Science and Technology, passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chattogram city.

Colleagues said that Jothi had visited Bandarban about two weeks ago and after returning she suffered from fever for two days before collapsing with convulsions and losing consciousness. Subsequent medical examinations revealed significant brain damage.​..
