At least 20 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country in the 24 hours till 8:00am on Monday, taking the official tally of hospitalised patients to 446 since January 1.

Only one dengue patient was hospitalised outside the capital city and the rest in it, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services. At least 80 dengue patients were still under treatment at different health facilities on the day, with 76 of them being in Dhaka and four others outside Dhaka, said the release.

The DGHS data showed that 94 patients were hospitalised in the six days of June, 163 in May, 23 in April, 20 in February and March each and 126 in January.

The health directorate in a pre-monsoon survey found a higher density of Aedes mosquitos in Dhaka in April this year compared to 2021 and predicted a worsening dengue situation unless preventive steps were taken...

At least one more person died of dengue in Cox’s Bazar and 99 others were hospitalised across the country in the past 24 hours till Tuesday morning, taking the total number of official death toll to eight this year across the country.

Of the dead, three were in Dhaka city and five in Cox’s Bazar district, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services.

Only one dengue patient died in June and seven in July.

Of the 99 dengue patients admitted to hospitals across the country in the past 24 hour cycle on Tuesday, 74 were reported in Dhaka city and 25 others outside the capital.

A total of 301 dengue patients are still undergoing treatment at different health facilities on the day, with 227 of them being in Dhaka and 74 others outside Dhaka city, said the release.

A total of 51 out of 74 dengue patients outside the capital are currently taking treatment at health facilities in Cox’s Bazar district, which is about 69 per cent of the total under-treatment patients outside the capital, according to the official data.

The mosquito-borne viral disease forced 2,305 people to get admitted to different health facilities across the country since January this year. Of them, 1,216 patients or 52.75 per cent were hospitalised from July 1 to July 26.

A total of 737 were hospitalised in June, 163 in May, 23 in April, 20 each in February and March and 126 in January, the DGHS release said.

At least 1,951 or about 85 per cent dengue hospitalisation was reported in Dhaka city, the official data showed.

Another 116 dengue patients were hospitalized in 24 hours till Sunday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among them, 70 patients were hospitalized in Dhaka while 46 in other places, it said.

As many as 387 dengue patients, including 314 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

On Thursday, this year's death toll from the mosquito-borne viral disease rose to 16 with one more death reported from Dhaka.

Among the total deaths, 10 were reported from Cox’s Bazar while six from Dhaka.

On June 21, the DGHS reported the first death of the season from the viral disease.

In July, the country reported 1,571 dengue cases with nine deaths.

This year, the DGHS has recorded 3,759 dengue cases and 3,356 recoveries so far...

Among them, 107 patients were hospitalized in Dhaka while 46 in other places, it said.

As many as 516 dengue patients, including 430 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across Bangladesh.

On Sunday, this year's death toll from the mosquito-borne viral disease rose to 19 with one more death reported from Dhaka.

Among the total deaths, 10 were reported from Cox’s Bazar while 9 were from Dhaka.

The number of hospitalised patients with dengue in the current year has risen to 6,357 with 22 deaths till Thursday morning, which is the fourth highest yearly hospitalisation in Bangladesh.

At least one more dengue patient died and 176 others were hospitalised in the past 24-hour cycle ending at 8:00am on Thursday, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services.

The lone dengue patient died in Cox’s Bazar.

A total of 1,01,354 dengue patients were hospitalised and 179 of them died in 2019, which are so far the highest official figures, the second highest 28,429 dengue patients were hospitalised and 105 of them died in 2021 and the third highest 10,148 people were hospitalised and 26 of which died in 2018, according to the DGHS data.

Of the newly hospitalised patients, 143 were admitted to health facilities in Dhaka city and 33 in other places across the country, said a press release.

DHAKA, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh has witnessed a significant spike in dengue cases in September, with 1,770 cases and 10 deaths registered so far, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said on Thursday.

In August, 3,521 more dengue cases were recorded after 1,571 people were infected with the mosquito-borne disease in July, according to the figure reported by the DGHS under the Ministry of Health.

By region, Dhaka and its neighboring districts are still more vulnerable to the risk of mosquito-borne diseases, according to the DGHS.

A total of 275 fresh dengue cases including 204 in Dhaka were reported in the 24 hours till 8:00 a.m. local time Thursday...

The number of people diagnosed with dengue across the country this year has exceeded 8,000. A total of 145 people were admitted to hospitals with dengue fever in the past 24 hours.

Of the 145 people newly infected with dengue, 140 are the residents of the capital Dhaka and the remaining are from outside Dhaka.

At present, the number of dengue patients admitted to different hospitals of the country have stood at 933. Of them, 770 patients are admitted to various public and private hospitals in Dhaka and the remaining 163 admitted to hospitals outside Dhaka.

At least one more died of dengue in the past 24 hours till Thursday morning across the country, taking the total official death toll to 40 this year since January.

In the past 24 hours till 8:00am on Thursday, 395 dengue patients were admitted to health facilities across the country, which was the highest single-day hospitalisation so far in 2022. Of them, 294 were in Dhaka city and 101 in other places outside the capital, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services.

The mosquito-borne viral disease forced 10,232 people to get admitted to hospitals and clinics this year since January, which is the third highest yearly number since 2000 when the Bangladesh government started keeping records of dengue deaths and hospitalisation with dengue.

At least 4,051 dengue patients were hospitalised in the first 15 days of September, which is the highest monthly hospitalisation this year.

September accounted for 39.59 per cent of this year’s total hospitalised dengue patients, showing a rising trend of dengue patients during the late monsoon rain.

Of the deceased in the current year, 17 were reported in Dhaka city, 19 in Chattogram, and four in Barishal division, the DGHS release said.

Month-wise, one died in June, nine in July, 11 in August, and 19 in the first 15 days of September.

DHAKA, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Over 9,000 fresh cases of dengue fever were reported in Bangladesh so far this month, resulting in the deaths of 34 people, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said on Wednesday.

The official data showed a total of 524 people were hospitalized for the mosquito-borne disease in the past 24 hours as of 8:00 a.m. local time Wednesday, the highest number in a single day so far this year.

According to the DGHS under the Ministry of Health, 373 people were diagnosed with dengue in Dhaka alone.

With the fresh infections reported Wednesday, the number of dengue cases in the country has surged to 9,165 so far this month, the DGHS said...

With no effective government initiative to curb the spread of dengue, patients have been detected in more than 50 districts, say experts

About 62% of hospitalised patients and deaths due to dengue this year in the country have been recorded in September, according to the Health Emergency Operation Centre of the Directorate General of Health Services.

There were a total of 16,092 patients until Friday morning. Of them, 9,911 were infected in September, which is about 62% of all infections this year. During this time, 55 people died due to dengue, and 34 of them died in September.

In the last 24 hours till Friday, 240 new patients with dengue fever – 150 in Dhaka and 90 outside the capital – were hospitalised.

Experts say there is no effective government initiative to prevent dengue, and patients have been detected in more than 50 districts. The number of patients reported by the health department is much higher than the actual number of infected people.
