45 dengue patients undergoing treatment at Dhaka hospitals: DGHS

Amid an alarming spike in coronavirus deaths and infections, Bangladesh is also seeing a rise in mosquito-borne dengue in the current month.

Forty five dengue patients are currently receiving treatment at 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka. No report of hospitalization with dengue came from other districts.

Twelve dengue patients were admitted to different hospital in Dhaka in the last 24 hours until Wednesday morning, according to a handout of the Directorate General of Health Services(DGHS).

A total of 247 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January and of them, 202 patients recovered.

Already battered by a worsening coronavirus crisis, Bangladesh now faces a sharp spike in dengue cases.

In the month of July alone, 1,920 cases have been reported, a 600 per cent jump from June when 272 cases were reported.

At least three people have died, dengue cases have reached 2,292 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Bangladesh's struggling healthcare system, already on the brink of collapse as a result of the third wave of coronavirus has been further weakened by dengue outbreaks.

In the past 24 hours, 239 COVID-19-related deaths were reported across the country, bringing the death toll to 20,255.

According to the DGHS, 15,271 new coronavirus cases were reported during the same period, bringing the total caseload to 1,226,253...

Some dengue patients are seeking treatment only after their condition gets worse


Eight of the 12 state-run hospitals in Dhaka, which are listed by the health directorate to treat dengue patients, are now turning them away, unable to provide treatment for the mosquito-borne disease.

Each of these hospitals used to have a dengue-dedicated ward, but those were designated for Covid patients, leading to the current predicament.

Being refused by government hospitals, the dengue patients in the capital are now forced to go to the private ones.

In the 24 hours to 8am on Friday, 211 new patients were diagnosed in Dhaka, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The day before, 208 dengue cases were reported in the city, 63 of whom went to public hospitals for treatment, DGHS data says.

As many as 1,010 people are currently undergoing treatment for dengue across Bangladesh, 972 of whom are in Dhaka, as of Friday morning.

Since January, 4,115 dengue patients have been hospitalized, of whom 3,095 have been discharged upon recovery...

Some 4,753 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January

As many as 210 new patients were hospitalized in 24 hours until Monday morning amid a growing concern over a spike in dengue cases.

Bangladesh started seeing an uptrend in dengue cases from June with the advent of monsoon. Since August 1, the country has been seeing over 200 dengue cases every day.

Of the new dengue cases, 181 were reported in Dhaka while the remaining 29 from outside the division, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

DGHS spokesperson Prof Nazmul Islam told UNB that there is a possibility that the number of dengue cases will rise further in August due to suitable breeding conditions.

“Aedes mosquito breeding increases in stagnant water due to heavy rains in August,” he said...

A total of 242 new dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals in 24 hours till Thursday morning amid a spike in the mosquito-borne disease that spreads mainly during monsoon.

Twenty two suspected dengue deaths were reported to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) but it is yet to confirm any death from dengue, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Bangladesh started seeing an uptrend in dengue cases from June. It started seeing over 200 Dengue cases every day since August 1.

Number of dengue cases in the country has crossed the 16,000-mark with at least 246 new patients hospitalised in 24 hours preceding 8:00am today, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the new cases, only 35 are from outside Dhaka.

With the new cases, a total of 5,866 were diagnosed during the running month out of a total 16,222 infected. Of the total infected, only 1877 are from outside Dhaka.

At least 7698 were diagnosed in August, 2286 in July, 272 in June and 43 were infected in May, according to the DGHS.

So far, 59 people have died of dengue infection in the country this year, all whom died in July, August and September...

Deaths this year remain at 98

Fifty-three new dengue patients have been hospitalized in 24 hours until Saturday morning, health authorities said.

The number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease remained unchanged at 98 in the current year as no fresh death was reported during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Ninety people died in Dhaka division alone, two each in Chittagong, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions and one each in Rajshahi and Barisal divisions.

Twenty-four new patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 29 cases have been reported from outside the division.

Some 293 patients diagnosed with dengue are receiving treatment in the country as of Friday...
