Dhaka, Oct 5 (UNB) – A total of 269 people were hospitalised across the country with dengue in the last 24 hours till 8am on Saturday.

Of them, 60 were admitted to hospitals in the capital and 209 in other parts of the country, said the Directorate General of Health Services.

Currently, 1,477 dengue patients, including 495 in Dhaka, are being treated at hospitals, it said...

Teenage girl dies of dengue in Chattogram

A dengue patient died at a private hospital in Chattogram last night.

Sumi Boidya, 19, daughter of Sunil Boidya of Khulshi area, breathed her last at National Hospital. Her younger brother has also been hospitalised with dengue.

Since January, 89,616 people were hospitalised with dengue, most of them in Dhaka. Of them, 87,903 went home after full recovery.

The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research received reports of 236 dengue-related deaths since the beginning of this year. It has reviewed 136 cases so far and confirmed 81 people had died of dengue.

DHAKA, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Bangladeshi government has confirmed another 12 deaths from dengue fever, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country since January to 93.

According to a report of the country's Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) received Friday, the deaths includes two in April, six in June, 34 in July, 47 in August and 4 in September.

On Oct. 1-10, according to the figure reported by the DGHS under the Ministry of Health, 3,162 more dengue cases were recorded after 16,856 in September and 52,636 in August, which were more than the total number of patients in any past year...

The unofficial death toll is reported to be around 180, so far

A total of 287 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours.

Till 8am on Sunday, 100 new patients were admitted in Dhaka and 187 in districts outside Dhaka.

Dengue, a mosquito-borne virus, spreads among humans through its carrier, the Aedes mosquito.

Patients nearly doubled this year in comparison to the total from last 19 years

The number of dengue patients identified across Bangladesh this year so far is nearly double of the total diagnosed with the mosquito-borne disease recorded in the past 19 years.

Between 2000 and 2018 end, some 50,176 dengue patients were identified around the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Breaking all records of the past recorded since 2000, the year when dengue outbreak was documented for the first time, the DGHS has also confirmed, a total 91,866 people were hospitalized throughout the country until on Sunday.

Dr Ayesha Akther, assistant director of the DGHS control room, said there was lack of preparation as the crisis worsened in June this year coming ahead of its usual time in September.

“Besides, although being an urban disease, dengue had a strong presence in the rural areas of the country as well this year.”

However, she added: “We will have to prepare ahead keeping this in our mind in the coming years.”

Between 2000 and 2019, 296 people had died from dengue across the country.

According to DGHS, Bangladesh saw the highest number of deaths — 93 — of dengue patients in 2000...

According to the latest figure reported by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health, the deaths included two in April, six in June, 35 in July, 57 in August and four last month.

DGHS said after reviewing 166 deaths, the government's Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) confirmed 104 dengue deaths so far.

According to DGHS, 5,637 more dengue cases were recorded so far this month after 16,856 in September and 52,636 in August...

The government on Monday confirmed 133 deaths caused by dengue in Bangladesh this year since April, the highest-ever figure for a single year after the infection first occurred in 2000 in the country.

The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research confirmed the death figure after analysing 211 cases out of the 264 suspected deaths due to the fever.

In 2000 dengue claimed the lives of at least 93 people, when doctors in the country did not know how to treat this disease. In 2001 the number of deaths caused by dengue dropped to 44 but rose to 58 in 2002.

...The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in a regular update issued on Friday said the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country are 220.

As many as 140 patients are currently receiving treatment in government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 80 people were undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the DGHS data said.

The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) has received 264 reports of dengue-related deaths across Bangladesh. It has reviewed 211 of them and confirmed 133 deaths from January 1 till December 13.

Since January 1, till December 13, as many as 100,923 people have been affected by dengue.

Among those admitted, a total of 100,439 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
