At least 11 people died of dengue fever over the last four days in Dhaka, Cumilla, Pabna, Laxmipur, Mymensingh, Lalmonirhat, Faridpur and Khulna -- taking the unofficial death toll to 90.

However, the government has so far confirmed 40 deaths from dengue.

A total of 1,800 new patients -- including 755 in Dhaka city -- infected with the mosquito-borne disease were admitted to different hospitals across the country in 24 hours, till 8am yesterday, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the latest tally, total number of dengue patients are 46,351 -- of whom 7,869 are currently admitted in hospitals across the country.

In the last three days, some 5,173 were admitted to hospitals across the country -- of whom 2,977 were in Dhaka and 2,196 were elsewhere, according to DGHS.

Though the number of patients slightly decreased in the last couple of days, experts fear that dengue cases might see a rise with holidaymakers returning home from outside Dhaka after the Eid vacation, if necessary measures are not taken...

A total of 51,476 people have been affected by dengue so far

A total of 1,460 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours. Among them, 621 patients were admitted in Dhaka, and 839 in divisions outside Dhaka.

Dengue, a mosquito-borne virus, spreads among humans through its carrier Aedes mosquito.

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in a press release issued on Saturday, said the number of admitted patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals combined is 7,856.

A total 40 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh from January 1 till August 15, according to their own collected data. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be 98, so far...

Over the last one week, hospitals outside Dhaka are receiving more dengue patients than those in the capital.

Experts have termed this particularly alarming given the state of healthcare facilities in rural areas.

In 24 hours till 8:00am yesterday, 972 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country compared to Dhaka?s 734.

Between August 12 and 18, at least 12,000 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country -- 6,866 of them outside Dhaka.

With the number of patients rising, hospitals outside Dhaka are facing huge challenges to cope with the pressure...

The experts mentioned different aspects in relation to prevent the disease including the weather, killing of Aedes mosquito, awareness among the people but failed to provide any specific timeline when the menace will be over.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services, a number of 1884 patients suffering from dengue were admitted to the hospitals in June. The number increased to 16,253 in July.

At least 36,336 patients diagnosed with dengue were admitted to the hospitals in the country as of Aug 19; a highest record of dengue cases in the country.
The government count shows 40 deaths due to dengue while the death toll according to a bdnews24.com count is 171 as of Aug 19.

With almost all hospitals in Dhaka, and public hospitals across Bangladesh struggling to provide services to dengue patients, the casualty rate of dengue patients, however, is only 1% in private hospitals, and clinics in the country.

About 23% to 25% of the patients tested positive for dengue while 77% to 80% were released after recovery, and about 20% are currently receiving treatment in private hospitals, and clinics, said Bangladesh Private Hospital, Clinic, and Diagnostic Owners? Association (BPCDOA) President Dr Md Moniruzzaman Bhuiyan.

Health Emergency Operations Centre and Control Room at Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said as many as 62,217 dengue patients were hospitalized and 47 died this year since January 1 to 8am yesterday.

A total of 1,179 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours. Among them, 570 patients were admitted in Dhaka, and 609 in districts outside Dhaka.

A total of 47 patients died from dengue across Bangladesh from January 1 till yesterday, according to the DGHS data. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 109, so far.

In contrary to the claim by BPCDOA that the casualty rate is only 1% in private hospitals and clinics, the DGHS data shows a different picture.

DGHS says a total of 37,005 people got admissions into Dhaka's public and private hospitals since January 1 to yesterday while 45 of them died.

A total of 14,289 of them got admissions into private hospitals or clinics, and 34 of them died. it says.

This means 72% of the deaths are officially reported in the private hospitals that dealt with about 39% of the patients...

Dengue cases in Bangladesh hit 70,000-mark, show sign of fall

DHAKA, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- A total of 51,734 cases of dengue were reported in Bangladesh this month, bringing the total number of confirmed cases since January in the country to over 70,000.

The figures, reported by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health on Saturday, showed a total of 70,195 dengue patients and 57 deaths from Jan. 1 to Aug. 31 this year.

Such a situation was reported with data, however, showing a sign of fall in the daily dengue number which dropped to around 700 Saturday.

DGHS data showed that 2,428 dengue patients were reported in hospitals on Aug. 7 in a single day.

Officials had earlier said the outbreak of dengue may abate slightly in September after devastation in August...

As many as 1,704 patients are currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 1,633 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the DGHS data said.

A total of 57 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh from January 1 till September 6, according to their own collected data. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be around 138, so far.

Since January 1 till September 6, a total of 75,146 people have been affected by dengue.

Among those admitted, a total of 71,617 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.

As many as 753 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday said.

According to the official data released by Bangladesh DGHS, of the 753 patients, as many as 294 patients were admitted in Dhaka while 459 patients were admitted in various districts outside the country's capital.


A total of 60 dengue patients have died across the country from January 1 till September 10. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be at 143, so far, reported Dhaka Tribune.

At least six more people died of dengue on Tuesday and Wednesday with the total death tally reaching 203, the latest casualty of the six was yet to be recorded by the government.

The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research said that it received reports of 197 suspected deaths due to dengue.

Since January, 78,617 dengue patients were hospitalized across the country, 634 of them in 24 hours ending 8am Wednesday.

According to IEDCR, this year most of the patients were infected with dengue virus serotype DEN 3.

A woman has died from dengue at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) while undergoing treatment.

The deceased is Raushan Ara, 55, a resident of Thakur Daulatput village in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia.

The Bangladeshi government has confirmed another eight deaths from dengue fever, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country since January to 68, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported on Monday.

According to the latest figure reported by the DGHS under the Ministry of Health, the deaths included two in April, six in June, 32 in July and 28 in August, Xinhua news agency reported.

A total of 653 fresh dengue cases, including 193 in Dhaka were reported in the 24 hours till 8 a.m. (local time) on Monday, showed the DGHS data.

An 11-year-old schoolgirl has died of dengue fever in Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), taking the unofficial death toll by the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to over 157 so far this year.

Dengue, a vector-borne disease which is prevalent in monsoon and post-monsoon season, is spread by the bite of the female mosquito (Aedes aegypti). Mosquitoes spreading diseases dengue, malaria, chikungunya, Zika virus, Yellow fever and others breed in stagnant water.

Tarin, a student of grade 5, daughter of daughter of Nasir Talukdar from Ghoshaighat upazila of Shariatpur, died at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of DMCH at 2:46 pm on Tuesday, a report by Dhaka Tribune quoted Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, and Tarin's aunt Shahida Begum saying.

DHAKA, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The mosquito-borne dengue fever has claimed 75 lives and infected over 85,000 persons across Bangladesh so far this year.

The death toll climbed to 75 on Monday as the Bangladeshi government confirmed seven more dengue fever deaths including four this month and three last month, according to the latest figure reported by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health.

According to report, the deaths included two in April, six in June, 32 in July, 31 in August and four this month.

DGHS said after reviewing 126 deaths, the government's Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) confirmed 75 dengue deaths so far.

The government has confirmed that 81 people have died from dengue across Bangladesh so far since January 1 of this year.

The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on Friday confirmed the death toll after reviewing 136 out of 231 cases.

However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 166, so far.
