The deceased was identified as Taimur Ali, 55, son of Late Foyez Uddin of Shibpur village in Dinajpur Sadar Upazila.
Dr Md Wahed Ali, physician of Medicine Department of Dinajpur General Hospital said due to scorching hit and contaminated water at least 43 diarrhoea patients have been admitted in the hospital's Diarrhoea & Department of which 30 are children and 13 aged patients.

Diarrhoea patients increasing

The number of diarrhoea patients in Dhaka has seen a huge spike in recent days, with at least fifteen people reportedly dying from diarrhoeal diseases during the past five weeks alone.

The Dhaka Tribune has learned that 10 patients died in March, while five more died during the first nine days of April. Sources said all these diarrhoea patients had already died when they were brought to the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease and Research Bangladesh (ICDDRB).

The lack of awareness among the patients’ relatives allegedly failed to ensure timely treatment, which could have saved lives, health officials said.

Although the average number of patients receiving daily treatment at the ICDDRB stood at around 400 last month, the hospital had 722 patients admitted on April 9 – the highest recorded so far this year.

Among the total patients this year, around 55% were adult and the rest were children. Around 25% the diarrhoeal disease patients suffered from cholera.

Khulna hospitals crammed with diarrhoea patients

KHULNA: Hundreds of patients suffering from diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, jaundice and typhoid have been crowding the hospitals in khulna over the last few days after falling victims to the sizzling hot summer. According to officials of Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), Khulna General Hospital, Khulna Shishu Hospital (KSH) and doctors in several other hospitals in the city and district, the medical units, including private clinics, are hard-pressed to accommodate the growing number of patients for the past week or so. Most patients, doctors said, are coming with complaints of diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, jaundice, typhoid, pneumonia, dehydration, heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps, fever, influenza and other viral diseases Meanwhile, Khulna met office in-Charge, Md Amirul Azad informed that they recorded the highest temperature at 39.5 degrees Celsius on Monday while it was recorded 40 degrees on Sunday.
Being the most vulnerable, elderly people and children are filling up majority of the beds in different hospitals and clinics of the city and district. With the existing infrastructure, physicians and nurses of the government hospitals, where most of the economically disadvantaged patients come for treatment; are facing serious difficulties in managing the sudden rush of patients.

Diarrhoea cases shoot up in city

Diarrhoea outbreak has taken a serious turn as a huge number of people are being affected by the waterborne disease due to ongoing extreme hot weather.

The number of diarrhea patients has gone sharply at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) during the past few days.

An ICDDR,B official told BSS that a total of 4008 patients were admitted to ICDDR,B during the past six days. Of the total diarrhea cases, 700 patients were admitted yesterday while 666 patients on April 19.
