Pabna, May 14 (bdnews24.com) -- Two people have been found Anthrax positive in Sathia upazila of the district, officials say.

They identified the patients as Chand Ullah Miah, 38, and Mirajul Islam, 13, of Chinamari village of the upazila.

Anthrax is an acute disease caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis. The disease in most forms is lethal, and it affects both humans and other animals.

Doctors say there are effective vaccines against anthrax, and some forms of the disease respond well to antibiotic treatment.

Locals said a goat was slaughtered at the village 10-12 days ago. Chand Ullah and Mirazul processed the meat and got infected with anthrax.

Sathia Upazila health officer Saqlain Ahmed told bdnews24.com on Saturday that the two patients were being given free medicines.

Confirming the incident, Sathia Upazila livestock officer Golam Mostafa told bdnews24.com that over 500 goats of the village have already been vaccinated.

Contacted, district livestock officer Abdul Hye said they were aware of the incident and urged all not to be panicked as the disease was under control.

Dhaka, May 27 (bdnews24.com) ? Anthrax strikes another north-eastern district of Bangladesh.

Sixteen people, including three children, have been found infected with the bacterium in Shahjadpur upazila in Sirajganj, a couple of weeks after this year's first outbreak was reported in Sathia, Pabna.

Local health officials say, the outbreak took place in Saratail village under Kayempur union council of the upazila.

Resident physician of Shahjadpur Upazila Complex Dr Abdul Awal told bdnews24.com that 16 people infected with anthrax were given treatment at the hospital over the last three days.

A three-member team of the livestock department rushed to the spot on Friday, bdnews24.com Sirajganj correspondent reports.

However, the director of Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) that oversees human infection urged people not to panic, instead be aware of the disease. He said doctors were better trained to manage anthrax infection. The infection in skin is not life-threatening if detected early...

Dhaka, May 28 (bdnews24.com) ? Eight more people have been found infected with anthrax at Shahjadpur and Ullapara upazilas in Sirajganj, taking the toll to 24 in the district.

On Friday, 16 people, including three children, were found anthrax-positive in Shahjadpur upazila, only weeks after this year's first outbreak was reported in Sathia, Pabna.

Resident physician of Ullapara Upazila Health Complex Dr Sukumar Roy told bdnews24.com on Saturday that the infected patients had been given antibiotics.

Of the infected patients, five are from Mohanpur union council of Ullahpara Upazila and the rest three from Kayempur union council of Shahjadpur Upazila.

They received treatment at Ullapara Upazila Health Complex as both Mohanpur and Kayempur are neighbouring union councils...

39 infected with anthrax in Meherpur

Meherpur, July 16 (bdnews24.com) ? Thirty-nine people have been found infected with anthrax in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district.

Of the infected, 17 are undergoing treatment at the Gangni Upazila Health Complex while the remaining have already received treatment.

Resident physician of the health complex Dr Anwarul Islam told bdnews24.com on Saturday that an ailing cow was slaughtered at Kallyanpur village of the upazila on July 5 and those who processed the meat and consumed it contracted the infection.
