Respiratory ailments on the rise in the city

BANGALORE: It's not just viral fever, cold and choking throat. Patients with upper respiratory tract infection and asthma are also queuing up at hospitals these days.
Hospitals have witnessed a 15 to 25 per cent increase in such patients in the last few weeks. Consultant Neonatologist, Manipal Hospital, Dr N Karthik Nagesh said: "For the past one month, we have witnessed an increase of 25 per cent viral infection cases."
He said many patients come with respiratory or breathing problems with complaints of chest pain. "The number of cases are more among kids and elderly," he said. "With the dip in temperature, the chances of virus proliferating increases and since body resistance among kids and the elderly is less, they are the most affected
