'Bird flu' fears over-ruled

AN objector to a poultry house containing 25,000 birds was concerned at the "potential to bring bird flu to the area" according to planning official Julie McMath.
And an objection was also lodged over fears the facility 260 metres north east of 133 Glenshesk Road, Ballycastle, would attract vermin.
However the application was given the go-ahead and Ms McMath told Moyle Council the applicant had provided an odour management plan for the scheme and it was it was accepted by environmental health chiefs.
She said planners took onboard the objections and allowed the scheme to proceed.
Council Vice-Chairperson, Councillor Robert McIlroy (DUP) - who chaired the November planning meeting - said: ?I?m sure the applicant will be pleased.? He added: ?The birds will not be so happy.?<!---
