Jeanette Greene (Spomer) (1938 - 2009)
Jeanette (Spomer) Greene 1938 - 2009 Jeanette (Spomer) Greene died in the early morning hours of October 29 as a result of complications of asthma and the H1N1 virus. She was 71. Born July 21, 1938 as a Dinuba farm girl, she attended Lodi Academy and then Reedly College. She moved to Glendale when she was in her 20's and attended La Sierra University. While working at Glendale Adventist Hospital, she managed to become engaged to a couple of men at the same time. Thankfully, she chose the right one, marring Larry Greene June, 1965. Two years later, daughter Patricia was welcomed in the world, and remained their only child. Jeanette was a wonderfully devoted and deeply caring mother. After moving from Glendale to Woodland Hills, Larry took a job with the Southern California Gas Company and the new family moved to Delano, before finally settling in Bakersfield. Jeanette loved the years she volunteered for Amoiselles and for the Republican Party. She worked on the INHERIT campaign, to abolish inheritance taxes in the State of California and eventually worked for Assembly Phil Wyman and Senator Don Rogers in their District Offices. She also held a board position for the Foothill Booster Club. Shortly thereafter, as a testament to her strong German will, she survived Breast Cancer. Having a great talent for gardening, Jeanette lived by the mantra that your summer garden must be planted by March 15 if you were to have good tomatoes. Larry and Jeanette were fortunate to have traveled to many places. Seeing the Caribbean on cruise ships was a favorite pastime, as was going to Hawaii. During the early years, the couple celebrated many of Jeanette's birthdays with a one-week waterskiing trip, renting a houseboat on Lake Shasta and sharing the idyllic time with friends. Later in life she developed asthma and became prednisone dependent. Her health slowed her down but did not stop her from enjoyed her niece, Catherine; her great- nephew, Eric; grandson, Andrew; and great- niece, Hayley. Being a good sport, Jeanette followed Andrew to his many soccer, basketball, baseball, and football games, going as far as Las Vegas to watch competitions, with her sister as traveling companion. Anyone who knew Jeanette also knew her favorite place in the world was the Cabin. Something about the clean mountain air enhanced her excellent cooking skills and no one left hungry. God, after snatching her many times from the jaws of death, finally called her to rest October 29. We take solace in the fact that the next face she will see when she opens her eyes will be her Creator. Jeanette is survived by her husband, Larry Greene; Daughter, Patty Vignolo; Son-in-law, Stephen Vignolo; grandson, Andrew Vignolo; sister, Barbara Cornell; Niece, Catherine Cornell; great-nephew, Eric Cornell; and great-niece, Hayley Cornell; and abundant cousins and friends. Graveside Services will be held Friday, November 13, at 11:00am at Kingsburg Cemetery.
