Propose cremation of dead influenza
by Fernando Barroso

Tijuana .- Seek Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the burial, cremation of any person who dies because of influenza, but has not been discussed with affected families.

This announcement was considered as a measure to prevent a further spread of influenza in Baja California. Health Secretary in the State propose to families of patients with the virus, cremate them in case of death to kill the virus.

According to the secretary of Baja California, Jos? Guadalupe Bustamante Moreno, to cases of influenza were reported in the city, which still exist today as the two cases of the UABC and the risk of contagion, said "we convince, convincing action, because it is a rule that we must do through funeral homes.

Guadalupe Bustamante based his argument in such a position statement and that the duty of the state agency is to "protect the population."

He added that drastic measures must be taken for a hard problem because we must remember that in the winter, the state Health Ministry sent only in random samples, at least 32 thousand.

Estimates to another possible outbreak, Dr. Guadalupe Bustamante said the consultations will increase significantly up to 40 percent minimum for symptoms of influenza, now that cold season arrives, because it is in this climate that the virus grows more easily.

"What we need to identify ourselves, is that the increase that there will be, there may come H1N1 and we complicated" but said the health sector should be ready by immunofluorescence and PCR laboratory to ensure what is influenza.

Bustamante Moreno stressed that "there will be more cases and we must be aware of that, there may be more dead."

The only way we have of preventing more deaths, society, government and media is that before the first symptoms, can be complicated, but there will be other cases in which people will go home.

The most recent WHO update (update 63, 28 Aug 2009, http://www.who.int/csr/don/2009_08_28/en/index.html) shows that Mexico is one of the two places in the world (at least of those brave enough to report it )showing VERY HIGH intensity* levels of acute respiratory disease*.

WHO MAP LINK to INTENSITY* OF ACUTE REPIRATORY DISEASE

* Intensity is an estimate of the proportion of the population with acute respiratory disease covering the spectrum of diseases from influenza-like illness to pneumonia (WHO's definition)

http://gamapserver.who.int/h1n1/intensity-population/h1n1_intensity-population.html

I fear that this could be Mexico's SECOND WAVE.

Will the second waves appear in order of first wave infection? Should we be looking at New York, Chicago, etc.for second wave activity?

Re: Baja California: Cases

Received: 28 February 2008 Accepted: 5 August 2008 Published online: 23 August 2008
Abstract The hydrogeochemistry of 26 wells belonging to ten different aquifers in the county of Ensenada, Baja California, is studied. These wells are all used to supply the rural communities in the region, which comprise ~37,000 inhabitants, excluding the city of Ensenada. High total dissolved solids (TDS) concentrations (maximum 7.35 g l−1) indicate that salt is a ubiquitous contaminant in the aquifers due to seawater intrusion. The aquifers that support extensive agriculture activities (Maneadero, San Quint?n, San Sim?n and El Rosario) are characterized by higher N?NO3 concentrations (maximum 20 mg l−1) derived from fertilizers. Fluoride concentrations exceed the 1.5 mg l−1 Mexican official limit in only four wells. The enrichments of F− in the southern aquifers are thought to be associated to water?rock interactions controlled mainly by Na?Ca equilibrium reactions with fluorite, as suggested from high dissolved Na concentrations in these waters. In the northern aquifer of Maneadero, no enrichment of Na is found and a geothermal source for F− is likely. Water is hard to moderately hard, with Ca/Mg ratios >1. Although drinking water directly from the tap is not a common practice in these localities, most sources have concentrations of major ions and TDS that exceed the Mexican official limits.

In issuing the last record of confirmed cases of influenza in the BCS and the imminent fall of temperatures in the entity, the Health Ministry stressed the call for citizenship for extreme care to prevent respiratory disease.

Against the background of almost 20 thousand consultations in the last two weeks of October, the Health Ministry advised people keep warm and avoid sudden temperature changes, consume plenty of fluids, wash hands frequently, avoid exposure to environmental pollutants and not smoking indoors and around children, elderly and sick people, because cigarette smoke worsens symptoms of respiratory diseases.

It is recalled that in the state of Baja California Sur continues epidemiological alert, meanwhile the Health Ministry reported that the search continues in cases and endorsed the intent that public hospitals are prepared for acute care.

The latest report issued by the laboratories of the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases (INDRE) of Public Health of Sonora, and La Raza National Medical Center IMSS, confirmed 19 new cases of Influenza A H1N1 positive in Baja California Sur, so the number of infected people officially amounted to 555, most of whom, 336 were propagated in Los Cabos, followed by 199 in La Paz and 18 in Comondu, while so far in the northern municipalities have not been formalized cases.

In the BCS number of deaths reported only 8 cases, 6 of Los Cabos and the remaining 2 in La Paz.

Among other recommendations, the SS said it preferred to avoid exposure to environmental contaminants, ventilate and allow the entry of sun rooms, offices and all enclosed spaces, keep the decks clean kitchen and bathroom, doorknobs and handrails, telephones and other commonly used objects not smoke indoors or around children, elderly or sick, avoid crowds and see a doctor immediately if symptoms occur.

He stressed that drinking water and use cream protects the skin from the cold, since the lack of body water causes scaling or stretching sensation, dry lips, hands and nails battered and itching in the legs.

La Paz, Baja California Sur .- The Ministry of Health reports that the laboratories of the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases (INDRE), Public Health and the Medical Center Sonora Nacional La Raza IMSS, have confirmed to Baja California Sur 393 new cases Influenza A H1N1 positive, bringing the number infected in the state rises to 1.043, of which 503 are for patients in the municipality of Los Cabos, 462 to La Paz, 59 to Comond? and 19 to Mulege.
The Health Department states that these cases are accrued from 23 April this year, when he began the State Epidemiological Surveillance Operating with the national alert. The increase seen in this court is due to the high demand that occurs nationally in all laboratories which results in a delay of up to one month in the delivery of results, therefore, regardless of the outcome of these laboratories , does not alter the current management of suspected cases of patients who meet the operational definition of fever of 38.5 degrees or more, of sudden onset, headache, cough and difficulty breathing, to immediately initiate antiviral treatment in all hospitals and health clinics in the state sector, ie take the result or not, treatment is started immediately.

Given the need to implement the diagnosis of influenza in the state and under which the work of expanding the State Public Health Laboratory (LESP) was completed by March 2010, last October, received a visit from technical evaluation by the Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference (INDRE) and defined areas within the existing facilities of the laboratory to start the diagnosis temporarily. For this we have staff trained in LESP INDRE facilities. On 17 and 18 November, was visited by a technical expert in the State Laboratory for installation of equipment. To date, it is awaiting input commitment from the federal level in order to start the diagnosis for the first week of December, this does not need to send any samples out of state and will fall substantially waiting times for results.

To this day, the health sector has provided consultations 180.629 respiratory infections so far this year and reported 3 patients hospitalized for pneumonia in the state who successfully evolve and reported that continues epidemiological alert and purposeful search cases and the preparation of hospitals for acute care.

The institution announced that continues the number of deaths from this virus so far this year is 8, 6 of them in Los Cabos and 2 of La Paz.
