Syphilis outbreak in Vancouver reaches epidemic proportions

After hovering on the brink of national eradication 19 years ago, syphilis has soared to an historic high in the Vancouver area.
The 2012 syphilis outbreak ? which totalled 371 cases across B.C. ? is the biggest in 30 years, Vancouver Coastal Health reported Thursday.
Out of these cases, 80 per cent were identified in the Lower Mainland, VCH said.
The health authority is so alarmed by the numbers that it described the crisis as reaching ?epidemic proportions...?
