Clostridium difficile likely contributed to the deaths of two patients at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on the weekend.

The hospital has been dealing with outbreaks of both C. difficile and Norovirus since last week. However, the Vancouver Island Health Authority says the number of people infected has declined.

Both patients who died were elderly and had underlying medical conditions, said Dr. Martin Wale, executive medical director for quality research and patient safety...

Clostridium difficile is to blame for one patient death at Nanaimo Regional General during the latest outbreak.

The Vancouver Island Health Authority declared an outbreak Dec. 31 after confirming that four people on the hospital's sixth floor had C. difficile.

As of Thursday, the hospital had no new cases connected to the outbreak. Of the four patients, two have died, one remains in hospital and one was discharged...
