Health officials are calling Gabriola Island's outbreak of whooping cough the worst in years, with ten new cases reported in just over a week.

The worst of the whooping cough outbreak appears to be over, but health officials continue to urge parents to vaccinate their children.
Nanaimo and Gabriola have seen the largest outbreak of whooping cough in the Vancouver Island area, with 40 new cases counted since last September, according to the Vancouver Island Health Authority.
Fifty-two cases, including 31 children and youth, have been found in central Vancouver Island and one person has been hospitalized...

A whooping cough outbreak in the West Kootenay region of B.C. has concerned health officials reminding parents to immunize children.
The outbreak is centred in Trail and Rossland, with 19 people diagnosed with the chronic cough in less than three months..
