Two cases of measles confirmed in Arizona

PHOENIX (KPHO/KTVK) -

Health officials in Arizona have confirmed two cases of measles in the state and people may have been exposed to the disease in Pinal County.

Both patients are recovering, the Arizona Department of Health Services said in a statement.

One of the cases may have exposed the public to the measles at the following times and locations:

Saturday, May 21, 2016: Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino, 15406 N. Maricopa Road in Maricopa from approximately 6:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. (May 22).
Sunday, May 22, 2016: Arco AM/PM Store, 2245 E. Florence Blvd. in Casa Grande from 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m...

ELOY -- Health officials say there are two confirmed cases of measles in Pinal County that may have originated from a private prison in Eloy.

Both victims are recovering, but health officials say one of the cases may have exposed the public to the highly contagious disease.

One patient is an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainee at the Eloy Detention Center and the other is an employee of the facility, Arizona Department of Health Services officials said...

ELOY, AZ - The number of measles cases stemming from an outbreak at a private detention center has reached double digits.

State health officials announced Saturday night lab test results confirmed eight additional cases....

...The new cases visited the Apostolic Assembly - The Faith, on Frontier Street in Eloy, on several occasions, including Sunday, May 15 from 1 - 5 p.m., Monday, May 16 from 6 - 10 p.m. and Wednesday, May 18 from 7 - 10:30 p.m. People may have also been exposed on Tuesday, May 17 at the Villa Oasis High School graduation in Toltec from 6 - 9 p.m. or at unit 7 of the Cottonwood Medical Center in Casa Grande from 1 - 5:30 p.m. on May 18.

Previous locations where those later confirmed to have measles spent time includes Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino and the Arco AM/PM on East Florence in Casa Grande...

PHOENIX - State health officials are watching 20 people who were likely exposed to measles since the outbreak began nearly two weeks ago.

The Arizona Department of Health Services says the 11 confirmed cases will almost certainly go up, as more time passes since the initial case.

State health officials say the number of exposed people could reach into the thousands.

Right now is the time to act, they say.

People who chose not to get vaccinated or have children who are older than six months and are not vaccinated, now is the time to get the shot. Measles can be deadly and it?s highly contagious...

PHOENIX ? A case of the measles related to the ongoing outbreak in Arizona has been confirmed in Maricopa County, health officials said Tuesday.

While the case is the first this year to occur outside of Pinal County, the Arizona Department of Health said it has not expanded its list of potential exposure sites. The person in Maricopa County is no longer contagious.

The Maricopa County case means Arizona has confirmed 14 cases of the disease during the latest outbreak...

Prison employees risk more measles
Over 1/3 have no proof of vaccination

ELOY ? Although the entire detainee population at Eloy Detention Center has been inoculated for measles, mumps and rubella, as many as 40 percent of the facility?s employees have not provided proof of immunity to health officials.

At the beginning of the measles outbreak that started at the detention center May 26, health officials had the facility?s leadership send an urgent request to all employees to provide proof of immunity. While the majority have provided their paperwork, more than 100 employees have not, according to Tom Schryer, director of Pinal County Public Health...
