Avian Influenza Virus H5N1: A Review of Its History and Information Regarding Its Potential to Cause the Next Pandemic

written by B. Lee Ligon, PhD

Published last year, this is a 10 page pdf file that covers a lot of ground. It includes info on avian influenza viruses type A; H5N1; a history of recent (prior to publication) outbreaks in poultry; spread in ducks, migratory geese and other birds; occurrence in mammals and humans since 1997; current status of the disease as of publication; and inplications for biosecurity.

There's a good reference list with website citations where applicable. If you're putting together a powerpoint presentation, it's a good place to go for background info you might have missed and for answering questions the audience might ask.
