Swine flu hurting country shows

Friday, 03/07/2009

Swine flu has reduced the number of people going to country shows by as much as 25 per cent.

Carnivals are doing the circuit across towns in Queensland and the Northern Territory.

George Pink from the Showman's Guild of Australasia says the recession hasn't stopped show goers.

He says the last few shows have coincided with media attention about swine flu.

"Well we haven't found any problem with the economic side of it, right up until the beginning of June," he says.

"And I don't put that down to actually economics I put that down to the swine flu."
