A nurse involved in a major data breach linked to the monkeypox virus is “devastated” by their error.

After a traveller returned to Perth from overseas on-board a Qatar Airways flight on Friday, they subsequently were found to be positive for the virus, prompting eight nurses to work on contact tracing.

They were tasked with contacting 46 people – including children – who had been seated in the few rows in front of and behind the infected person.

West Australian Premier Mark McGowan told reporters most of those people received a phone call, but one person could not be contacted, so they were sent an email.

However, the nurse “inadvertently and mistakenly” attached the entire contact tracing list, which included the personal details of the travellers.

Mr McGowan said both he and the nurse were sorry for the mistake.
