Kunjin virus present in Moora area

THE Shire of Moora is part of the sentinel chicken program that is managed throughout the state by local authorities and organised by the Health Department of WA and the University of WA.
Recent bleedings of the sentinel chicken program has identified the Kunjin Virus being present in the Moora area.
Manager of health, building and planning services Peter Williams said, ?What this means is the mosquito that has bitten the chickens is carrying the virus so it can be spread to humans.?
?Mosquitoes have developed the virus after biting a mammal that is infected with the virus and the importance of this is that the virus is in the area and other mosquitoes can also develop the virus.?
