Govt pushes hygiene message in flu ads
There were almost 400 notified cases of influenza in the ACT last winter.
The ACT Government says it hopes a new advertising campaign will stop the spread of flu and colds this winter.
There were almost 400 notified cases of influenza in the ACT last winter, compared to 80 in 2006.
The advertisements will focus on encouraging people to keep healthy by improving their hygiene.
Health Minister Katy Gallagher says they will also encourage people with influenza not to automatically head to hospital emergency departments.
"With influenza there is very little that can be done if you have it, it is highly contagious so we need to make sure that people are only coming there if they're worried about their health," she said.
"If information that we can provide you allows you to look after your family member or yourself at home then that's the best outcome."
