Australia: Fire at Broken Hill's Perilya mine re-ignites, residents warned to avoid 'possible toxic smoke'

In short:
A blaze at a Broken Hill mine that began hundreds of meters underground on Sunday night has reignited after being put out.

Staff at Perilya's zinc, lead and silver mine have been evacuated without injury, and nearby residents have been asked to say inside to avoid smoke from the blaze.

What's next?
An emergency committee has been formed to deal with the incident.

ADVICE - RESIDENTS URGED TO REMAIN INDOORS - BROKEN HILL

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is aware of smoke that is venting from the Perilya Mine, Broken Hill, due to an underground fire. Perilya Mines emergency services crew is currently in attendance at the incident.

FRNSW is urging residents to remain indoors and to close windows, doors, and vents due to the smoke in the area.
