The NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has quarantined a hen farm in New South Wales. The farm has been closed, as it is being suspected that it might be infected with bird flu.
Authorities concerned said it shall be noted that the flu that is being expected at the farm house is not the same that affects human lives. "The suspected virus is definitely not the highly pathogenic H5N1 strain that has gained worldwide attention - nor is it closely related to that strain", said Ian Roth, who is positioned as NSW Chief Veterinary Officer.

NSW Primary Industries Minister Katrina Hodgkinson said a decision whether to cull the 50,000 birds would be made once testing had been completed by the CSIRO's Animal Health Laboratory in Geelong.
"The Food Authority and NSW Health have been consulted, and have advised there are no food safety issues," Ms Hodgkinson told parliament.
"Poultry and eggs are safe to eat."

"All the outbreaks were contained and successfully eradicated with no impact on human health," it said. "They were not caused by the H5N1 strain. They were all from an H7 strain."
The property owners are cooperating with the department over today's apparent outbreak, and the Egg Corporation had been informed, the department said.
