AN African woman is being tested for the potentially fatal Ebola virus at Perth?s Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

SCGH has confirmed the woman, aged in her 60s who is believed to be an African national, is being tested for Ebola due to symptoms consistent with the disease.

It is understood she returned from West Africa 10 days ago.

She was admitted to Royal Perth Hospital but transferred to SCGH last night.
Precautions are being taken until the woman?s illness is diagnosed.

A spokeswoman for the hospital said: ?The hospital can confirm it has one patient who is currently being tested for Ebola and appropriate precautions are being taken until the patient?s illness is diagnosed.?

A WOMAN admitted to a Perth hospital with a suspected case of Ebola does not have the deadly virus, the Health Department says.

A Health Department spokeswoman said this afternoon the woman had been released from quarantine at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

She said Ebola had been ruled out and no further information about the patient would be released
