Cases of measles have been detected in Sydney
By ASHLEY NICKEL, NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA

Australia's most populous city is at risk of a contagious disease outbreak.

NSW Health on Wednesday advised Sydney is at an 'increased risk' of a measles outbreak after 11 cases were recorded in just three weeks.

'As people return from overseas holidays, it is expected that additional cases may be identified,' NSW Health warned.

Measles outbreaks have already been reported in several popular locations for Australian tourists including Bali, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, the Philippines and Malaysia.

The two latest cases stem from a person returning home from Thailand and a locally contracted case.

'The recently confirmed cases visited many locations across Sydney while unknowingly infectious, including healthcare facilities. These locations do not pose an ongoing risk,' NSW Health said.

NSW Health advised anyone who visited Priceline Pharmacy St Clair between 3pm and 4pm on January 14 or Nepean Hospital Emergency Department from 7.50pm on January 16 to monitor for symptoms...

Undetected measles circulating in Adelaide, SA Health warns after local infection identified
By News Desk
Last updated: February 4, 2026

Health officials in South Australia have announced that undetected measles is circulating in Adelaide following the identification of a local case in an adult who has not recently traveled. Chief Public Health Officer Nicola Spurrier expressed serious concern regarding this development, emphasizing the significance of the situation.

The adult in question contracted measles within the community, raising alarms as recent cases in the region have predominantly been linked to international travel. “In this particular case, they have not traveled, they haven’t traveled interstate, they haven’t been on a plane and they haven’t been overseas. That means we’ve got undetected measles circulating in Adelaide, which is really very much a concern,” Spurrier noted during an interview with ABC Radio Adelaide...

SA Health has issued a health alert following the confirmation of a measles case in an infant who contracted the disease overseas. This recent case is unrelated to another reported earlier on February 4th.

The infant was infected while abroad and visited several locations in South Australia during the infectious period. SA Health has clarified that these locations do not pose an ongoing risk. However, people who were present at the specified times might have been exposed to the virus. Authorities are urging those who are not fully immunised and were at these locations during the specified times to be vigilant for symptoms of measles in the coming weeks. Australians warned of measles risk as vaccinated traveller brings virus home from Indonesia

Amanda Hodge

3:13 PM February 23, 2026.Updated 13 hours ago

An 18-year-old Perth woman has become the latest Australian to unwittingly bring measles home from Indonesia as the Southeast Asian nation experiences a surge in the highly-infectious and potentially fatal viral illness.

Indonesia’s Public Information ministry confirmed on Sunday that Australian authorities had informed them the young woman tested positive for the disease after returning from Bandung in West Java earlier this month, despite having a complete MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination history.

The Perth woman, the latest in a string of Australian visitors to Indonesia to contract the disease, travelled home on a Batik Air flight from Jakarta to Perth on February 7, and developed a rash the next day, ministry spokesman Ali Muharwarman said.

The reportable infection comes as NSW Health issued a weekend alert for passengers who travelled from Jakarta to Sydney on Garuda flight 712 on Tuesday February 17, and those who travelled from Sydney to Melbourne on Jetstar Flight 505 to monitor for symptoms until March 8.
