​A baby who recently returned from overseas has triggered a health alert after visiting a cafe while infected with measles.

NSW Health raised the alarm after the nine-month-old infant was taken to locations in Sydney's inner west and southwest.

The child had recently returned from Asia, where there has been an outbreak of measles in countries including Pakistan and India.

People might have been exposed to the infectious disease when the infant visited Five Star Coffee and Nuts on Yerrick Road in Lakemba between 3pm and 5pm on Friday, the health authority said.

Leena Gupta, from Sydney Local Health District, said the location posed no ongoing risk but she advised anyone who visited the shop at the time to be alert for symptoms...

Children on a shopping centre playground may have been accidentally exposed to measles after the highly infectious disease was discovered in a second Sydney infant.

The seven-month-old baby recently returned from the Middle East, where there have been outbreaks of measles in several countries.

Those outbreaks and an earlier infection in a travelling infant led health authorities on Thursday to encourage all recent travellers to Asia and the Middle East to look out for symptoms of measles.​..

...The infant was not considered to be infectious on the flight into Sydney but may have spread the disease while at a playground in the food court of Auburn Central, opposite Aldi, between 1pm and 3.30pm last Thursday...

NSW Health issued an alert on Wednesday advising people to look out for signs and symptoms of measles after a confirmed case was found to be infectious while travelling through Sydney International Airport, landing in the ACT.

The adult infected with the "very contagious" airborne virus was returning from Asia which, like Europe, has been experiencing ongoing outbreaks.

Director of Communicable Diseases Branch for NSW Health, Dr Christine Selvey, has said it is important to look out for symptoms if you, or someone you know, were on this person's flight or visited the below locations at the specified times.​

People may have been exposed to the virus in the following locations:

Air India flight AI 302 from Delhi to Sydney, arriving in Sydney on Saturday January 20 at 8.10am,

Sydney Airport – Terminal 1 International Arrivals (including baggage claim and customs) and Bay 9, bus and coach bays, on the morning of January 20.

Murrays Bus Sydney to Canberra Express, departing Sydney International Airport around 10.30am on January 20. ACT Health is contacting individuals who travelled on this bus service.​..

A Murrays Express bus and the Canberra Hospital emergency department are exposure sites following a confirmed case of measles.

It’s believed there’s limited risk to the public; however, Canberrans have been urged to check their vaccination status.

Chief Health Officer Dr Kerryn Coleman said the infected person had likely acquired measles on a recent overseas trip.

“ACT Health is currently investigating a case of measles and can confirm, at this time, there have been no further linked cases,” she said.

The individual travelled from Sydney International Airport to Canberra on a Murrays Express bus at around 10:30 am on Saturday, 20 January.

They also attended the Canberra Hospital Emergency Department between 4 pm on Sunday, 21 January, and 1:10 pm on Monday, 22 January.​..

Measles alert for northern NSW

NSW Health is advising people to be alert for signs and symptoms of measles after being notified of one confirmed case of measles in northern NSW.

The case recently returned from Asia where there have been ongoing outbreaks of measles in several countries including Pakistan and India.

People in the following locations may have been exposed to the virus and should monitor for symptoms:

schoolchildren (both primary and secondary) who were on the morning and afternoon Singh Company school bus in the Murwillumbah area on Monday 5 February
people who attended the Emergency Department at Murwillumbah Hospital on Friday 9 February between 1:15pm-4pm
people who attended the Emergency Department at Murwillumbah Hospital on Saturday 10 February between 12:15pm-8pm.

North Coast Regional Director of Population and Public Health, Dr Valerie Delpech, said while these locations pose no ongoing risk, people who visited the above locations should be on the lookout for symptoms.​..

The person was likely infectious while at Springwood Road State School on Wednesday February 7 between 8.30am and 3pm.

People who have been at the school during this time need to be alert for symptoms, especially if they have not received the two doses of the measles vaccine.​..

Adelaide child reported with measles as cases emerge around Australia

Health authorities have warned travellers on a flight from Melbourne to Adelaide to be alert for symptoms after a toddler has contracted measles.

The one-year-old from metropolitan Adelaide is currently in a stable condition in hospital after recently returning from overseas.

This is the first case of measles, which is a notifiable disease, in South Australia this year after a handful of cases were reported around the country.

SA Health has advised people who are not fully immunised to measles and were on flight QF685 from Melbourne on Thursday, as well as at Adelaide Airport between 3:45pm and 4:45pm on Thursday, to watch out for symptoms.

People who were at the Women's and Children's Hospital emergency department between 10pm Thursday and 4am Friday were also asked to be mindful and to contact a doctor if they become ill.​..

Health authorities have issued an alert after a confirmed case of measles passed through Melbourne Airport earlier this week.

The international traveller departed from Dubai onboard Emirates Flight EK408 and is believed to have arrived in Terminal Two on Wednesday.

The person transited through the T2 international terminal between 10:50pm on Wednesday and 12:20am on Thursday before passing through the T1 domestic terminal between 1:30pm and 2:35pm, en route to South Australia.

Victorians who have travelled back from South Australia, and have travelled through any of the possible exposure sites, are urged to monitor their symptoms for 18 days following possible exposure, or up until March 3 or 4.​..

A new case of measles has been reported in a returned overseas traveller who transited through Melbourne Airport while infectious. This is in addition to the case that transited through Melbourne Airport last week.

The case arrived on flight SQ217 from Singapore to Melbourne on 19 February at 9:40pm and transited through Melbourne Airport's T2 international terminal between 9:40pm and 11:10pm.

People who were on this flight or at Melbourne Airport during these times should monitor for symptoms of measles.

NSW Health is asking the community to be alert for the symptoms of measles after being notified of a second confirmed case of measles in Wagga Wagga.

The new case is linked to an earlier case acquired overseas and reported in February.

The new case was infectious in the community more than two weeks ago, so there may already be spread of measles that has not yet been detected.

A woman who visited shopping centres in western Sydney while infectious with measles this week has prompted a health warning for people to be vigilant for symptoms of the potentially fatal disease...

...In a statement, NSW Health said the woman contracted the disease from an infant at the start of March.

She visited a Baby Bunting store located in the Blacktown Megacentre on March 24 between 3pm and 4pm, before visiting Kmart at Blacktown on March 24.

A few days later on Thursday, March 28, she made a trip to Winston Hills Mall between 12pm and 2.30pm.

She spent more than eight hours at Westmead Hospital Emergency Department on Friday, March 29 between 2pm and 10.30pm.​..

​SA Health has issued an urgent alert about measles in the wake of a second case in less than a fortnight who visited multiple places in Adelaide.

The 17-year-old male from metropolitan Adelaide was exposed to the measles case in an infant who returned to South Australia from overseas, and which was reported on March 23...

The teenager is in a stable condition in hospital.

Passengers on a flight from Sydney have been urged to monitor for symptoms after a child tested positive to measles.

SA Health said the one-year-old Adelaide boy, who recently returned from overseas, is in a stable condition in hospital.

It is the sixth case of measles in South Australia this year, compared to three cases at the same time last year, according to SA Health.

The child arrived in Australia on flight EK416 from Dubai to Sydney on June 11 and travelled to Adelaide from Sydney on flight QF749 the same day.

He visited Adelaide Airport on June 11, and SA Pathology and Benson Radiology clinic at Modbury Hospital on June 13, a Salisbury Downs surgery on June 14 and the Women's and Children's Hospital on June 15...

An urgent health warning has been issued after a traveller with measles landed in Melbourne, visiting a busy McDonalds and multiple high-traffic shops along the Great Ocean Road.

The returning traveller was infectious and arrived from overseas on Tuesday June 25, before visiting a McDonalds near the airport, toy shops and grocery stores in the southwest of Victoria.

It is the 11th case of measles in Victoria this year....
