Flu patient influx causes Royal Hobart Hospital bed block, elective surgeries on hold

A spike in flu cases has forced the Royal Hobart Hospital to postpone some elective surgeries to free up beds.
Tasmania Health Service acting group director of clinical operations, Coral Paton, said the influx had put pressure on the emergency department.
The hospital has responded with strategies to "optimise patient flow and free up beds".
"This includes postponing elective surgeries when clinically safe to do so, and ensuring discharges are conducted efficiently," she said in a statement.
People with flu-like symptoms have been asked to seek treatment from the private system or their general practitioner, unless it is a medical emergency...
