FAR Northern health officials have warned residents of dengue after two cases at Manunda were confirmed yesterday.

The man and woman are the first cases of locally acquired dengue in the city for almost a year, although there have been nine other patients treated in Cairns this year who contracted the disease overseas...

The department says the student tested positive to the disease on Friday...

A MANUNDA woman has become the third person to contract dengue fever in Cairns this year, with another case in Townsville sparking warnings about a possible outbreak of the contagious disease.

Disease control teams are working at Manunda to spray larvae and adult mosquitoes, after a woman was confirmed to have contracted the dengue fever virus.

Cairns Public Health Medical Office Dr Richard Gair said the Manunda case had been linked to the previous two cases...

Another two cases of dengue fever have been confirmed in Townsville, in north Queensland, after two others last week.

A Queensland Health spokeswoman says three cases were contracted locally, while a fourth resident is thought to have contracted the disease in Bali.

Two more residents suspected of having the disease are awaiting tests results...

AN Emerald man has hit back at claims from Queensland Health only one confirmed case of dengue fever has hit the Highlands.

The 48-year-old local contacted the Central Queensland News following last week's report only one case was confirmed.

He said his local doctor confirmed he had dengue fever, and after being virtually bed-ridden and physically weak for more than two weeks, there was no doubt he had contracted the viral illness...

...There have been eight confirmed cases of the disease in Heatley in recent months and authorities are currently testing more people with suspected cases...

Authorities are warning people heading overseas to protect themselves against mosquitoes as the number of dengue fever cases reported in South Australia spikes.

Already this year, 40 cases have been reported in SA ? almost double the total from 2011 and eight times more than in 2005.

TWO Mt Sheridan residents struck down with dengue fever are likely to have been infected by the same source.

Tropical Public Health physician Dr Richard Gair said both cases, confirmed on Friday, had been identified as type three dengue.

He has urged people to see a doctor if they are feeling unwell...

Health authorities say it is hard to track dengue fever outbreaks in far north Queensland because many cases are going unreported.

Two women and a man have contracted the mosquito-borne virus in the Cairns suburb of Mount Sheridan this month.

The director of the Cairns Public Health Unit, Dr Richard Gair, says residents experiencing even mild flu-like symptoms should see their GP as a precaution to help stop dengue spreading...
