Asturias already recorded 4,000 cases of influenza per week

The incidence of influenza in Asturias last week increased by 38 per cent to reach 391 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Since last July 1, about 29,000 have had cancer in Asturias, according to a statement released yesterday by the Health Council of the Principality. The influence of the disease is very limited in children under one year, especially in those over 65 years.
The note from the Ministry states that between 15 and 21 November might be recorded in the region around 4,000 new cases with clinical suspicion of influenza. The group hardest hit are still under 15 years. The mortality rate of the disease in infected persons is 0.01 percent. Asturian Nearly 17,000 have been vaccinated against influenza A.
The pressure on health services care remains above average in the same month last year, especially in pediatrics, where the increase stood at 25 percent. In general medicine and primary care in the emergency department increase stands at 11 percent and 12 percent respectively, which means it remains far from that which occurs every year during the peak of seasonal influenza.
On the national scene, the incidence fell last week in eight different provinces. However, the overall rate of clinical influenza in that period has gone from 359 to 371 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has recorded at least 7826 deaths and more than 622,482 infected with influenza A/H1N1 virus worldwide since it launched the health alert for pandemic risk.
Compared with the previous report, there have been 1056 new deaths and affected more than 96,422 new worldwide, indicating a significant increase of statistics in both sections.
In France, the Institute of Health Surveillance (INVS) announced the identification of two cases of patients who died after having a mutation in the gene of influenza A/H1N1 virus. According to the INVS, mutation of the virus that these two patients contracted-unrelated-is the same as those seen recently in countries like Norway and Denmark.
