Asset protection: Rydex launches currency ETFs

Re: Asset protection: Rydex launches currency ETFs

Anyone see a benefit to buying currency indexes as opposed to iShares Country Baskets? I know the iShares indexes are based on companies larger companies from various stock exchanges. Based of the Current Account Deficits chart on page 24 of Citigroup "Global Portfolio Strategist" 17 Nov 2005 it looks like the US is not the place to base any investments.

I don't know (it is possible anyone who says they do know is only speculating) about how investing in a countries currency as opposed to their top traded country companies compare. I am thinking about Canada, Europe, Switzerland, and/or Singapore. I am young enough to let my 401k weather the storm and wait out the recovery (2 years?).

Re: Asset protection: Rydex launches currency ETFs

Fredness - They are two completely different and non-correlated asset classes. If you think that there will be a serious pandemic, I would park your cash in the Swiss currency and only switch to stocks once you feel the worst is over. This kind of advice I do not consider profiteering; I'm talking about doing whatever you can to preserve whatever you've got. If you think the bird-flu will be a non-event, I would not follow this strategy.
