Cochrane Collaboration, an international association which advocates full transparency of the laboratories in terms of new medicines, has demanded that the Swiss group Roche complete results of clinical trials of H1N1 flu drug Tamiflu.
After reviewing the results published so far, Cochrane concluded that " there is insufficient evidence that oseltamivir (Tamiflu) to reduce complications in healthy adults, "according to today's British Medical Journal in its online edition.
Roche responded to these criticisms by promising to make public the information on the ten unpublished clinical trials but, according to Cochrane, still "has not fulfilled."
Cochrane's team responsible for the antiviral, expressed concern after finding "reports of serious adverse effects in ten patients in two important studies," funded by Roche and were not included in the published results.
The group demands free access to all data from clinical trials to learn the "real" effects of new drugs.
Cochrane's proposal also includes developing a list of clinical trials - published or not, and access to detailed reports before approving a drug and that the governments decide to purchase large lots of a new drug, as occurred with Tamiflu.
The demands of the association does not seem out of place after it was discovered a year ago, the fraud of the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) that was falsely linked to autism.
Andrew Wakefield, the British doctor who caused the controversy, concealed data from the medical study was subsequently published in the journal The Lancet.
The British Medical Journal today refers to this case and reveals the intention to discredit Wakefield MMR vaccine to create its own alternative, all with the support of the Royal Free Hospital Medical School University of London, where he worked.
